The Silent Hill 2 remake is finally here, and it's using the power of the PlayStation 5 to give players an incredible, immersive experience unlike ever before. But, there are a few surprises!
Amazing Sound Design
One of the coolest things about the remake is how it uses the PS5's features to bring the spooky sounds of Silent Hill to life! The original game is well loved, in part because of its iconic music from Akira Yamaoka and the amazing sound design!
This is replicated perfectly! But not only that, the new version even steps it up a notch with haptic feedback through the DualSense controller. This means you feel the creepy vibes, from a monster approaching (even feeling it as a vibration as the monster approaches) to even feeling what it's like to be walking in the rain, making the game feel even more realistic!
The use of sound from the controller even heightens some scary moments!
- The game makes some incredible use of radio static to indicate when enemies are nearby!
- This static sound is produced from the DualSense controller and makes these encounters especially nerve wracking.
This added realism even allows for increased immersion and has an additional feature, especially those fans looking for extra help!
- There's an accessibility setting that can visually help those that may need extra help, using "Radio State Indicator."
DualSense and Battery Life
The DualSense controller makes the game even more fun with its great use of audio and haptic feedback, creating immersion like never before.
Unfortunately, this amazing technology comes with a drawback. There's nothing more immersion-breaking than a low-battery warning in the middle of a terrifying encounter!
This happens often!
While there are settings to reduce the impact of this feature on your DualSense's battery, such as turning off the DualSense's built-in mic by pressing the button beneath the PS button and/or reducing vibrational intensity, many gamers want this turned all the way up. This is unfortunately the reality.
You might also use headphones or invest in a longer charging cable! Even with that said! There are improvements to the original sound system, and not enough control in this area is an important issue to resolve as the game is enhanced, the power should be left in the players' hands. Fans will look forward to seeing just what comes next.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Overall
These added effects increase the immersive aspects but really only work well when this technology functions the way it is meant to. When these unique PS5 features have issues this detracts from the game, and not in a fun way!
Hopefully the game can fix these things so it won't cause too many problems!
