Marvel Rivals a popular free-to-play hero shooter video game, will start it’s first official season, titled "Eternal Night Falls”. This event will bring new characters and gameplay modes after an impressive first month which has had a high volume of consistent players and unique elements.
The start date for Marvel Rivals Season 1 is set to January 10, 2025, at 07:00 UTC . The new season adds the beloved Fantastic Four characters which include The Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic at the initial launch and Human Torch along with The Thing are to follow soon. Each season will last three months with new content every half cycle.
"Eternal Night Falls" also offers all new game modes with 3 additional maps for players to choose from: Sanctum Sanctorum and Midtown, which are launching with season one and Central Park is set to release in the middle. There will also be special events such as the Midnight Features event which include limited-time rewards and all new game mode called "Doom Match".
The Fantastic Four are the next playable characters to enter the battle with their debut in season 1. The addition also follows the current storylines where heroes are up against Dracula who has teamed up with Doctor Doom to stop the moon creating an “eternal night”. Their introduction provides new methods for unique gameplay and brings iconic team dynamics for all to enjoy.
Invisible Woman will take a support role with force field manipulation skills while Mr Fantastic will be classified as a duelist/vanguard hybrid. Human Torch and The Thing will arrive in a mid-season update providing all members to be played together or individually to see each characters capabilities.
Season 1 introduces many balance updates for various characters. These updates include adjustments to help those with mobile vanguards while making them more efficient and effective. Buffs were also delivered to both Wolverine and Storm. The developers at NetEase have made plans to make it a fun experience through these balancing acts that are designed to create more interesting scenarios.
This mode is also described to have 8-12 players fighting each other on the new map with no team structure making the mode “every person for themself”. Players will earn points based on knockouts and the top 50% at the end will be called winners.
A new battle pass comes with over double the content from the season 0 version. This new battle pass has a price of 990 Lattice while showing over 10 new outfits and extra items as well that include emoticons. There also is two additional outfits available by not having to purchase.
The season features its first “Midnight Feature Event” with opportunities to acquire timed exclusive rewards for those who are actively playing. A new Twitch Drop has been announced giving rewards for specific streamers at a timed event to increase views.
Despite launching in December, "Marvel Rivals" continues to grow with a recent record breaking of 560,000 players as season one begins on steam. Its popularity stems from both it's unique style in the “hero shooter” genre which was once held by Overwatch but also from its very dedicated fan base. The number of views also continue to rise with Twitch views as well which has increased during this new content release.
Many users have created mods or skin changes which shows just how passionate fans are about this game. That enthusiasm however can lead to policy breaking activities and the developers did step in to make sure modifications don’t compromise integrity of gameplay. Even though there have been no confirmations of users getting penalized those caught modifying game files could be banned in the future if terms and services continue to be broken.
