In House Of The Dragon season 2, Vermithor, a large bronze dragon that King Jaehaerys I rode, is hinted to make a comeback. A faction arose between the Blacks and the Greens for the Dance of the Dragons in the first season finale. In a subdued scenario, Prince Daemon Targaryen approaches a dragon on Dragonstone and makes a suggestion that there may be riderless dragons that could help the Blacks.
Numerous dragons, both mounted and riderless, have already been introduced in the program. One such dragon is Vermithor, whose reappearance is strongly suggested. Other dragons, such as Seasmoke, which Laenor Velaryon rode in season 1, are also being hinted at in the program.
In season two of House Of The Dragon, Hugh Hammer, a blacksmith of Valyrian origin, is introduced. In the throne room, he approaches Aegon II and asks for assistance for King's Landing's struggling blacksmiths. In episode 2, Hugh's difficulties and his ailing daughter are introduced, giving rise to the possibility of a tragic storyline for him.
Hugh is a dragonseed, and his Valyrian blood may help him find Dragonstone. He may claim a dragon there and turn his luck. He might have the money and power to defend his family if he were to become a dragonrider.
Jacaerys Velaryon makes the decision in Fire & Blood to look for Dragonseeds in order to ride the unclaimed dragons. Being the second largest dragon, Vermithor is a great target for a rider, especially considering how much smaller he is than even the formidable Vhagar. Hugh seemed destined, given his past and present circumstances, to travel in search of a dragon toward the conclusion of season 2.
Hugh appears to be being portrayed in the play as a tragic figure, particularly if Aegon's failure to provide for the Blacksmiths results in the death of his daughter. This might inspire him to find a dragon and turn his life around.
In the books, Hugh succeeds in claiming Vermithor, elevating him to a prominent position in the Seven Kingdoms. At the Battle of the Gullet, he helps the Blacks, but sadly, power corrupts him.
As one of the Two Betrayers, he betrays the Blacks at the First Battle of Tumbleton. Hugh even asserts that he ought to be king following Vhagar's demise. Though it's uncertain how closely the show will adhere to the books, Hugh appears to be developing into a more likeable character.
