Connections Game Hints and Answers for October 3, 2024 (Puzzle #479)

Connections, the New York Times word puzzle, asks you to group words together based on a shared relationship. To play Connections successfully, you’ll have to think critically about the relationship between words, but don't worry, we are here to help!

To help you crack today's Connections puzzle, we have some hints. But be warned: These puzzles can be tricky, so try not to look at the answers until you have exhausted all your other options. There's a lot of possibilities when it comes to grouping words together – but only one correct way.

Remember that today’s Connections categories consist of four words each. This could be one of the more challenging puzzles, but a few tips can really help you move more quickly, with those solutions - so you don't get trapped by some of the more common, wrong guesses - there are many!

Category Hints:

  • Beverages: One of the more simple categories but the word WATER can be a trap as it is a common beverage. But it does not fit in this specific category. You might also have to think twice about PRUNE JUICE.
  • Care for a Plant ( a category, that's a bit tricky. You have to think about WATER as a verb rather than a noun. It could be confusing, so use some of those strategic thinking skills,
  • Items Sold in Pairs - you might be able to group these words together with those two key wordsBOOKEND and EARBUD,
  • Bugs plus a Starting Letter ( a category that is more challenging to understand at first glance), it might help if you try and spot a pattern - there’s only one word that does not fit into that pattern (but the rest, do).

            • Think critically about the relationship between words - what common elements or attributes do they share?
            • Pay attention to the starting letter – it might help to point you in the right direction, but don’t get distracted – look for more specific connections.
            • If you're stuck, try making a list of all the possible categories and try and pair off the words with some of those categories to help you move forward.
