Stealing With BG3's Spirit Guardians Almost Makes Sense
Baldur's Gate 3 is filled with tons of wacky stuff, and sometimes it's the little things that make it stand out. One weird quirk involves the Spirit Guardians spell, and it's actually a pretty useful trick for making a quick buck, no matter how shady it sounds.
Normally, Spirit Guardians is all about summoning spectral protectors to beat up the bad guys. But if you use it near friendly Npcs, they'll get scared and move out of the way! It's almost like they're actually afraid of those spooky spirits. So, you can basically herd NPCs into secluded spots by using the spell, and then rob them blind!
The Method Makes Some Sense, Even If It's Not Intended
It's definitely not a planned feature in Baldur's Gate 3. In tabletop DnD, you'd expect Npcs to ignore Spirit Guardians unless they were specifically targeted. But, the way the game works, it almost makes sense that they'd want to get out of the way, even if they just shuffled away. After all, the spirits are pretty ghostly, and nobody really likes being surrounded by them!
To be fair, it's a bit questionable whether they'd be happy being herded into a corner by a spell, but hey, it's a video game! Who cares if it's a little outlandish?
Spirit Guardians Isn't The Only Way To Move Around Your Pals
If you don't have a character who can cast Spirit Guardians, there's another way to move NPCs around. You can actually pick them up as Improvised Weapons! That's right, if you have a character who is super strong, like Karlach, you can just grab a friendly NPC and carry them wherever you want to go. It's a little more embarrassing, but it works just as well!
You can't do this with every character, of course. You need a character who can carry a lot of weight, which can be a bummer, but at least you have some options.
Hold Person Is Your Best Friend For Clean Robberies
Once you get your friend away from everyone else, you need to make sure they can't run away and tell on you! The Hold Person spell is perfect for this. Just hit them with a bit of magic and they'll be frozen in place while you steal their cash and valuable items. It's a classic move!
Look, it's not exactly the most moral way to play Baldur's Gate 3, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The good news is that there are a bunch of ways to make money in this game, and this is one of the most fun and creative methods.
