Baldur's Gate 3 Minthara Recruitment Guide: Patch 5 Update!

Hey gamers! Let's talk about Baldur's Gate 3 and how you can get Minthara to join your party. This is a big deal, especially since Patch 5 dropped, changing things up quite a bit!

Minthara: The Drow Paladin

For those who don't know, Minthara is a Drow Paladin, and a pretty wicked one at that! Before Patch 5, only players who went full evil and totally wrecked the Emerald Grove in Act 1 could get her. That left good-aligned players high and dry. No more! Now even goody-two-shoes can recruit her! But it's not a simple task, my friends.

Larian Studios spilled the beans in their Patch 5 notes. The main thing you need to do is knock Minthara out during Act 1—but not kill her. It sounds simple but you need to use non-lethal attacks. There's an option you can toggle in your hotbar, so check the Passives tab to switch this on.

Here's the tricky part! Community testing has shown there are a couple more conditions. To make sure this happens.

  • Make Minthara temporarily hostile, but not fully angry. Do this by breaking a minor law in front of her to get the fight rolling.
  • Now knock her out—keep the non-lethal toggle on! Once that is finished!
  • Dror Ragzlin must stay alive. He's another goblin boss. Don't fight him unless you really want a whole goblin riot on your hands, which totally screws everything up. Consider making a save here, because this process is kind of fiddly!

Once she's sleeping soundly. That's not all. After getting her out. Continue with your usual progress in the game and when you go to Moonrise Towers (it will happen during Act 2) there is this scene where Minthara is imprisoned! It seems they are waiting to hear how your actions lead you to deal with their situation!

The Side Quest:

This triggers "Decide Minthara’s Fate," a side quest that allows you to finally rescue and add to your crew! That also opens the gate for more conversation and her ability to finally join you! Once this happens, it all comes to light, the path is finally opened up. That means the ability to bring this character into your story.

Word to the wise—save your game before heading into the Gauntlet of Shar. It's a point of no return. Missing any side quest or accidentally bumping her off could cost you major loot and fun times! This includes the chance that any prisoners may end up getting bumped off in Moonrise Towers as well!

Is Minthara Worth It?

Getting her to join as a "good" character seems a bit broken. It feels like her true personality is best suited for those playing totally evil! The main problem now is you can't take Halsin with you, too. He's the usual go-to good guy, and better companion even if he isn't one of the best characters, for good runs.

For those of you running evil characters—the process for adding Minthara is much easier, you just align with her! That's really all!

Minthara has some killer qualities if you're into evil shenanigans:

  • She's the only Drow companion (outside a Drow Tav).
  • She’s a Paladin!

If that is your style. This totally might be a reason for evil players to keep her around for those difficult duels! Regardless, be sure to go out and get that amazing adventure!
