Renowned for their ability to cut almost anything, Wolverine's claws are a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel Universe. Even these powerful weapons, though, have restrictions. With their special weaknesses and "kill instructions," natural animals have sometimes been thought to be immune to adamantium. But a recent preview of Stephanie Phillips and Robert Gill's X-Men: Blood Hunt - Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 points to Laura Kinney, also known as Wolverine, might have gotten a supernatural upgrade. In the realm of the X-Men, this fresh development seems to upend everything.
Laura is shown in the preview fighting a group of Vampires during the continuing "Blood Hunt" event. Using Darkforce Energy to block out the sun, the vampires have plunged the planet into darkness in an effort at dominance. Laura mercilessly sends the supernatural creatures with her Adamantium-laced claws in a scene guaranteed to chill vampire hunters everywhere down their spines. She leaves them apparently dead by stabbing them repeatedly, spreading their blood over the floor. This surprising turn of events begs problems regarding Laura's claws' nature and their newly acquired superhuman ability.
Originally inspired from actual folklore, Marvel Universe Vampires have certain flaws historically. Effective weapons against these creatures are sunlight, garlic, wooden or silver stakes passed through the heart. Though it is unmatched in strength, Adamantium has never been known to seriously threaten vampires.
According to the preview, Laura's claws have got over this restriction. She shows a fresh ability to damage these creatures by apparently killing three vampires with her claws alone. Laura's powers may undergo a major change with this development, which would equip her greatly in the fight against supernatural enemies.
Although Laura's claws might have supernatural qualities, another theory explains the vampire death. Laura leaves a new room after apparently killing the vampires at the end of the preview, but the last panel shows her walking through the door, suggesting a secret threat hiding there.
The vampires might be simply acting possum, not really dead. Should this be the case, Laura may be entering a trap and the actual threat remains unresolved. But the other - that Laura's claws have been imbued with supernatural power - is equally fascinating and gives her skills an exciting new dimension.
One thing is clear regardless of whether Laura's claws have acquired supernatural ability or the vampires are just acting dead: she is a force to be reckoned with. Her adamantium claws allow her to apparently kill vampires, indicating a dramatic change in her capacity and hence makes her a more powerful weapon in the struggle against supernatural dangers.
Laura Kinney's fresh powers and the possible risks they carry should be more evident as the "Blood Hunt" event progresses. Still unanswered is whether Laura's claws will show superhuman ability or if this is only a calculated lie. But the response will have to wait until July 17, 2024's X-men: Blood Hunt - Laura Kinney, the Wolverine #1 releases.
