Godzilla's Atomic Breath Will Kill Wolverine Instantly
Marvel is holding a Godzilla vs. Wolverine match to commemorate the publication of Godzilla: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus. Godzilla returns to the Marvel Universe as part of an incredible partnership with Toho International in remembrance of the 1977–1979 series, in which Godzilla faced off against icons like as the Avengers and Fantastic Four.
The alternate covers, which will be made available in September, feature Godzilla competing against some of Marvel's most recognizable characters. One particularly striking cover is Roge Antonio's for Wolverine #2, which features Godzilla removing flesh from Wolverine's bones, implying that the King of Monsters' atomic breath might be too strong for Wolverine's Healing Factor.
Logan Is More Capable of Surviving Than This Kind of Incineration
The strongest weapons in Marvel history have failed to stop Wolverine's Healing Factor, but this fight with Godzilla tests its limitations. Despite having faced enormous Sentinels, Godzilla's Atomic Breath is too strong for even his impenetrable adamantium-coated claws and quick healing factor.
Logan's most famous comedic demise—having his flesh burned by a Sentinel in Days of Future Past—is portrayed in Roge Antonio's artwork. Wolverine's bone marrow is the source of his Healing Factor; his blood distributes its unique qualities throughout his body. While Wolverine's healing power varies depending on how many calories he's consumed recently, Marvel has generally been consistent in saying that a scorching heat burst can still be fatal.
Wolverine has previously been incinerated, and it wasn't pleasant.
Wolverine suffered the same demise at the hands of Nimrod in 2021's Inferno #1. Not only did Nimrod use a Godzilla-like energy explosion to kill Wolverine, but he also killed Logan many times, using his adamantium-coated skeleton to construct a new 'Sentinel Zero' unit each time since the X-Men kept regenerating him and sending him back to try again.
Even though he possesses a high capacity for survival, Wolverine's capacity for healing is limited. His body is capable of being burned, and even if he were to get to get inside Godzilla, it's doubtful he would survive.
Logan's Limitations Are Shown by the Godzilla Variant Covers
The Wolverine #2 variant cover serves as a clear reminder that the King of Monsters is stronger than even the strongest mutants in the Marvel Universe. It's an entertaining, albeit gory, ode to Godzilla's legacy and devastating force.
The question of whether Logan's healing factor can withstand Atomic Breath has been definitively answered by Marvel with this matchup: it cannot. For fans of Wolverine, this may be a disappointing ending, but it's a monument to Godzilla's omnipotence and his famous atomic breath.
