Peacemaker Fights Amanda Waller's Forces Under Unconventional Cover
With their August solicitations, DC Comics has given a glimpse of what lies coming later this Summer. Including the fourth and fifth issues of Absolute Power: Task Force VII, the side series centered on Amanda Waller's band of Amazos with Justice League powers, this month will see the second wave of titles linking into this event. The Absolute Power releases all come with a swarm of variant covers, including an interwoven sequence of variations by John Timms showing the important players of the DC Comics.
Absolute Power #2 portrays Amanda Waller mostly in a Timms variation, with her latest asset, the Brainiac Queen, looming in the backdrop. On the variant cover for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #5, many Justice Leaguers—Flashes, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter facing down an off-screen threat—are highlighted. Task Force VII #4 also carries a Timms variant, this one mostly portraying Peacemaker and his alternate world doppelganger Peacewrecker fighting outside the re-christened Hall of Order.
Why Peacemaker is Turning Hero and Why it Works
Showing Peacemaker in battle with Waller's forces seems strange for a collage featuring Absolute Power's key players. He has, after all, been cool with what she has done thus far. People should keep in mind that Smith favors peace above everything; hence, even if Waller's claims otherwise, it is obvious that her intentions regarding visiting will cause only anarchy to the planet. Maybe in her search for dominance Waller may go too far for even Peacemaker to support.
Peacemaker moving to the good side makes logical timing. DCEU fans know of his recent live-action adaptation Peacemaker, which features Smith as a flawed but ultimately well-meaning person. Smith was a bit of a jackass in the current DC Black Label book Peacemaker Tries Hard, but he was someone who sorely sought relationships with people. While the Prime version has stayed quite flat, every other version of Peacemaker has been given a more nuanced characteriszation.
Peacemaker and His Past with Amanda Waller
During the Infinite Frontier era, Christopher Smith—also known as Peacemaker—joined Amanda Waller's Suicide Squad and grew to be one of her most devoted members. Shortly the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Waller resurfaced with a scheme to eradicate the metahumans on Earth. Waller started working in the shadows after teaming with the Council of Light. Waller stayed out of the public while Peacemaker was her chief field agent monitoring metahuman teams like the Doom Patrol and the Titans.
Peacemaker actively helped Waller solidify the power she now possesses, not only observing anyone Waller desired to be watched. Smith traveled to Lazarus Island and found the Helmet of Hate, which Waller used to activate her secret agent, Doctor Hate. When Waller at last emerged from the shadows and assumed her new position as head of the Bureau of Sovereignty, Peacemaker also served as her personal bodyguard.
Peacemaker deserves the opportunity to be a hero.
This version seems rather deliberate even though it could be a misdirection. For all his flaws, most people agree Peacemaker is a Hero. Now is the moment for Smith to really demonstrate how much he cherishes peace by opposing Amanda Waller and supporting the heroes as she is off the deep end seizing control of the DC Universe. For Smith, this is long needed character growth that fans will definitely enjoy. With Peacemaker at last choosing to be a true-blue hero, hopefully things will turn out for the best.

Peacemaker will at last be able to be the hero the DCEU has shown him thanks to DC Comics' forthcoming event.
Absolute Power approaches and seems to be changing things for a lot of different people, including Christopher Smith. Smith had remained at her side to assist see her job through during her mission, but an alternative cover implies Peacemaker is turning on his company.
