The Flash #14: Is Foxy a DC God? Wally West's Family Gets Supernatural!

The Flash Just Added a New Family Member...And They Might Be a DC God!

Wally West's Family Gets a Supernatural Furry Friend!

The Flash family is HUGE. Speedsters, allies...it just keeps growing! The newest addition? Totally wild. In The Flash #14 (written by Simon Spurrier, art by Vasco Georgiev, colors by Matt Herms, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou), Wally West's family is on vacation after battling the Arc Angels. Their camping trip features a surprise guest: their dog, Foxy. Except...there's a twist!

This isn't a normal dog. Wally even asks, "When did we get a dog?"  They act like Foxy has always been there! This isn't simply a dog; we are exploring something completely different; something mysterious!

Now, let's delve deeper. This is where this new character comes from, and how this ties everything together!

Foxy: The Deep Change's Secret Child?

Wally West is talking to Linda when Foxy, his dog, jumps up and greets him. Wally comments on how Foxy has been a part of his life for so long, then says,

Foxy first appears in The Flash #13 as a brief vision—Wally and his family encountered this totally mystical being named the Deep Change who is literally the source of time itself!  This amazing being is shown nearly dying, which impacts all of reality. After everything transpires, their combined actions actually have created another new member of Wally West’s family!

After helping this Deep Change give birth to another character and as another vision later appears (that mysterious glow in its eyes?), I came up with an interesting theory!  The Deep Change itself is a cosmic entity; the literal, physical embodiment of time itself and completely altered events from before the arrival of Foxy – it seems to imply some deeper control. So, Foxy could’ve possibly come out of that birth itself.   A literal, divine being made part of Wally’s family; This would impact everything afterward, including his later abilities and decisions; which would matter even for future episodes!

For decades, the Speed Force fueled speedsters’ powers! This mystical force powers the Flashes and their relatives and connections are mysterious; that's not a surprise and is what made the Flash Comics always so great! Now we’ve got more insights into that origin point from The Flash #13.

The Speed Force is alive and completely sourced from that totally powerful entity: the Deep Change. This is one crazy being! This cosmic force is fueled by the lives of those individuals, specifically through familial relationships–this love feeds the Deep Change through time; in turn gifting time; that which they utilize to run fast and do their heroic feats. But, wait… Why a pet in the Flash’s timeline?  To be clear; a pet placed seemingly spontaneously by that extremely mysterious force?

The arrival of the incredibly mysterious, divine being should leave the Flash extremely suspicious, after those terrifying earlier encounters and his long experience dealing with unpredictable and chaotic cosmic entities. He’s encountered various powerful alien species such as those mentioned earlier – and others, whose influence is more than often questionable and with catastrophic, world-altering consequences, implying those darker elements hidden underneath that very apparent benevolent exterior of that equally mystical new member to his household.

Yet this new character doesn't need to be evil! Pets frequently appear in other DC Comics too; think of Dick Grayson’s Bitewing (Nightwing #78)! Perhaps Foxy might become like that super-pet that all other super-powered individuals like to have; the adorable companion that might add additional benefits later; adding a different level of excitement that other super-hero plots cannot simply accomplish without adding these other companions! The Flash’s family never had one; which alone really conveys exactly just how much value might've come from that addition and that would make later episodes totally unique, given this additional element that isn’t explicitly discussed!

Foxy’s arrival remains shockingly amazing and entirely unexplained— introducing a totally new level of mystery within the Flash’s ever-changing family life; that ongoing complexity involving various other supernatural beings means these other unpredictable divine-like entities appearing has serious potential! He's totally cute; but he's more than just cute – the impact and its relationship with a being whose capacity to influence reality, specifically through time, hints toward his importance in the future— even influencing those already deeply established moments found through the entire Flash franchise's many characters, making later issues into an intensely amazing story that other narratives could simply never manage. Those unpredictable cosmic aspects, coupled with that potential for having new kinds of support animals; adds yet another new direction for The Flash, a new path never seen before in the long history surrounding this amazingly popular comic and the ever-expanding lore connected to those deeply iconic elements which made this franchise famous, creating a completely new aspect for those fans expecting an unexpected twist which could deliver huge payouts in that later portion of this now famous and expanding comic franchise.
