Stan Lee's Love for the Campy Batman TV Show - A Look Back

You know Batman, one of the most iconic figures in the comic book world? His 1966 show might surprise some as the one and only, Stan Lee loved the series, despite some negative opinions in the world of comics!

This show that starred Adam West was a total hit. Its campy style of comedy was able to get adults and children laughing for years! This show brought a new world for Batman and showed everyone how truly awesome DC Comics could be, while pushing Batman into the mainstream and making him a pop culture icon. It had a budget like no other for its time.

If you think the look is memorable and helped a lot of fans, there were some people that weren't very impressed!

  • It is apparent that Lee had the idea that if the "Marvel Age" was ever going to hit television with a budget as impressive as Batman had!

The biggest critique from many in the world of comics, however, felt that Batman was over the top! Even though "Biff! Bam! Pow!" really got a lot of attention! You see the whole comic industry went on a wild journey. They found it harder to be seen in a more serious way!

After the 1960s, they went to change the whole direction and tone of "Batman." If you look closely at DC's series. It brought this iconic character back to its origins and roots!

And then we saw something quite interesting. Over a decade after "Batman" made such an impact, the show came back into the spotlight! Its big moment on home videos and VOD allowed a whole generation of fans who hadn't seen it, to experience these awesome moments, and as DC Comics even tried to release a couple of spinoff, these characters and that early Batman Show's legacy would never go away.

What stands out, is that Stan Lee had the ability to see just how big this TV show was! Even in its original run!
