The Spy X Family Isn't Quite So "Nice" After All, Reminds Creator Tatsuya Endo
You know that fun, wacky anime Spy X Family, where a spy, an assassin, and a psychic kid live the family life? It's like a total love fest of crazy, right? But according to its creator, Tatsuya Endo, there's a darker side to all the family cuteness and that's a super important element to keep in mind.
Lots of viewers probably love how this family has managed to become one of the sweetest things to happen in Anime, but don't get too comfy. Endo has said, repeatedly, to not lose sight of that dark stuff that makes things real! Because as great as this pretend-Family story might be, we're talking spies and assassins living a secret life! We know these guys aren't just enjoying Sunday brunches; there's serious action and big-time secrets floating around this adorable little family!
How a Fake Family Brought About Real Morality
Imagine a world where the Cold War is happening, a spy, named Loid, goes about his day by creating a fake Family so he can complete this mission to get super close to this big target of his (Operation Strix!). Loid wants the world to believe that he’s a total normal guy – living the dream in this "perfect family", but Yor, the assassin wife, and Anya, the psychic daughter, have secrets, too!
It's one thing to spy and cause a ruckus, but Yor literally murders folks for a living! Anya may be super young, but she can actually hear those pesky inner thoughts everyone has. These guys might seem harmless and totally adorable on the surface, but Endo’s emphasis is clear: They aren't always nice.
Endo Takes On The Real-World, With War and Morality
You've got this Spy X Family anime and manga with those crazy adventures. It's funny, it's charming, and we’re constantly being swept up by how charming the Forger Family is! But in the real world, things don't always stay super cutesy.
Tatsuya Endo explains that when it comes to “war”, people make choices that might not be very “nice.” The whole "spy family" premise might look totally wholesome on the surface, but Endo has talked about those big and weighty topics, reminding everyone that those choices aren't always a bunch of sunshine and rainbows. It’s really important to know how complicated it is for those caught in the middle of war, to get an accurate understanding of those times.
What Kind Of “Harsh Reality” Can We Expect?
Endo brings it up, because the story has to get a little rough, and some events that happen later in the story show just how intense Spy X Family can be. And just because it’s Anime doesn’t mean the show can’t show a bit of danger, some really serious stuff.
Anya’s psychic skills might seem super cute, but it's actually how she survives a whole bunch of close calls. Think defusing a bomb and escaping kidnapping attempts! It's those "harsh realities" that really add to the drama.
Endo’s Words Make Those Spy X Family Adventures a Lot More Complex
It might seem silly to put a spy in the middle of a loving family, right? Maybe everyone just thinks those mission goals of world peace (which Loid and Yor are trying to pull off) are gonna make everything happy-ever-after, but Endo reminds us – not so fast!
We learn that Loid did this whole fake-family thing to be able to achieve those mission goals! It’s just an assignment. And while he might have become an awesome fake father, there's the real possibility that he could just walk away from them. Even Yor is using Loid as a tool to get out of all the pressure from her super strict family, so let’s just say she’s not in it for the “real” reasons either!
Is The Forger Family Actually Bad, Or Just Complicated?
That being said, there's gotta be a good reason to love Spy X Family, and those little glimpses of how they learn to love and depend on each other really stick with us, right? Endo’s not telling us to hate on the Forgers. In fact, the love and growth of that "not-so-normal" family is super important. Maybe they’re not perfect. Maybe their motivations might not always be sunshine and rainbows, but that just means there are going to be tons more heart and drama to come!
Just knowing how those "harsh realities" come to the fore makes every interaction, every funny little scene even more engaging. It's almost like Tatsuya Endo wants us to be thinking harder about this whole "what’s love?" idea and what’s truly good in the world.
