Every DC Comics Death and Resurrection Robin
Batman's friend Robin is the most well-known and long-lasting superhero sidekick; however, every Robin has gone through many perilous situations and has not always survived. Although most people know of Jason Todd's death and comeback, not everyone is aware that every other significant Robin in Batman's past has also passed away and come back.
From Dick Grayson's 1940's Detective Comics #38 introduction, Batman's iconic ally Robin has been a mainstay in Gotham. Batman has named numerous other young vigilantes as Robin, although Dick has undoubtedly had the longest stay as Robin—in continuity as much as in the history of DC's publications. Apart from Dick, four Robins of importance with substantial narrative relevance have been Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne: These five cherished DC characters have great history with Batman, including for each of them major brushes with both Death and resurrection, while other characters have momentarily wore the Robin suit or adopted the name.
The Death at the Hands of Lex Luthor, Briefly Dick Grayson
Dick Grayson meets his unexpected Death during events of Forever Evil #6 by David Finch and Geoff Johns. Dick in this narrative is taken prisoner by the Crime Syndicate, who have overrun Earth. Batman is horrified when Lex Luthor decides, executive-wise, to kill Nightwing after being hooked to a bomb that will only stop if Nightwing's heart stops.
Still, this Death was the shortest of all the Robins since Lex Luthor rapidly restarted Dick's heart and returned him to life with an adrenaline shot. Although Dick was only dead for a few seconds, the entire planet watched and believed it; this later helped Dick to join the intelligence agency Spyral under another name, before returning to public life and the Nightwing mantle.✀
Among the most infamous deaths and returns in DC history is Jason Todd's murder.
By likely the most well-known Robin fatality, the Joker tragically killed Jason Todd in the venerable Batman: fatality in the Family. Jason was a divisive Robin to say the least as the second Boy Wonder, and he finally set off a global search for his mother. His mother abandoning him to the Joker, though, was something he never expected. After beating Jason with a crowbar, the Joker left Robin to be bomb murdered. Jason sought to shield his mother from the blast even in his last hours, but regrettably none of them survived.
Superboy-Prime punched the fabric of reality so forcefully in Infinite Crisis by Geoff Johns and Phil Jimenez that he created ripples altering significant DCU highlighted events. The comeback of Jason Todd marked one of the most significant transformations. Jason was brought back to life, clawed his way out of his own tomb rather than laying dead in his casket. At last Jason adopted the pseudonym Red Hood. Jason stayed that way ever since, turning into a vicious vigilante who didn't mind deploying deadly force from then on.
The Close Encounter Tim Drake Had with Death Was Quickly Turned Around
Tim Drake destroyed a group of military drones set free on Gotham City by making them all focus on him as their single target. Tim killed all the drones once they were all in range, but he couldn't stop them from assaulting him. Though Tim Drake's story hadn't ended, it seemed as though the drone's attack had totally annihilated him.
Tim Drake had been abducted by Mr. Oz, subsequently identified as Superman's father, rather than executed. Tim was housed in a prison as Mr. Oz had considered him to be too dangerous to walk about freely. Tim was finally released from this confinement by an older, darker side of himself that would come to be termed Savior. After months of believing he was dead, Tim reconnected with his friends and family while the two of them worked together to flee Mr. Oz's prison.
DC Editorial Almost Made Stephanie Brown Dead.
Stephanie Brown most certainly suffered the most out of Robin other than Jason Todd. She tried her best, but the tales told to her as Robin were working against her; even the DC staff members didn't seem to like her. For a few months, she was Robin; but, she was sacked by Batman for failing to execute his directives as precisely as he desired. This led Stephanie to act one of Batman's contingency to eradicate crime in Gotham, thereby proving her value. Stephanie sadly misjudged the intricacy of the scheme, hence Black Mask cruelly tortured and killed her.
Though Stephanie was hurried to Dr. Leslie Thompkins to try to save her life, Leslie tells Batman Stephanie passed on the operating table. Although Stephanie was meant to remain dead, her death was retconned a few years later: Leslie had actually lied, fabricating Stephanie's murder to support a point of view for Batman on the employment of child soldiers in his fight on crime. Actually transported out of Gotham to recover from her injuries, Stephanie would finally make her way back to Gotham City to carry on combating crime as a Bat-Family member.
Damian Wayne's Death Pushed Batman to His Limit
Death of Damian Wayne almost drove Batman over the brink. Damian and Bruce were battling Talia al Ghul's Leviathan group under Batman Incorporated. Damian was pierced through the chest by his clone brother Heretic as he tried to fend off his mother's troops. Everyone was stunned by this terrible tragedy since writer Grant Morrison had spent years developing Damian as a real hero, so rendering his death absolutely tragic. Batman was much more broken by Damian's passing than by Jason's ever had.
Batman fixated on getting Damian back after his death. He made Red Hood go through his darkest trauma in order to try to understand how Jason came back to life, questioned Superman about his Resurrection from the dead, and dissected Frankenstein to try and learn how he lived as a live corpse. Bruce even made himself repeatedly experience Damian's death in a virtual simulation in order to demonstrate that, had he only have been better, he could have stopped Damian's death. Batman ultimately journeyed all the way to Apokolips and brought Damian back from the dead using a combination of a Lazarus Pit and a chaos crystal.
Robin's Deaths and Returns: Legacy
Batman has taught every Robin as best as they could have been to help them survive the perilous superher existence. Even all the training in the world, though, cannot equip one for the shockingly deadly circumstances DC Universe heroes must often encounter. Even if every Robin has repeatedly escaped some dying time, there is always one moment they fail to escape. Although Jason Todd will always be remembered as the Robin who passed away, he is most certainly not the only one. Every Robin has returned, but each has also experienced death and not always walked away.
In the Robins' life, these deaths and Resurrections have not only been noteworthy occasions but have been extremely important in determining the growth of the characters and their bonds with Batman. The deaths of the Robins have sometimes made Batman face his own death and the limits of his mission against crime. The Bat-Family has gained fresh dynamics from the resurrections, which have resulted in confrontations, reconciliations, and a better knowledge of the complicated link between Batman and his protégés.
