Power Rangers: The Coinless Saga - Lord Drakkon & the Alternate Reality!

Get ready for a wild ride through the multiverse of Power Rangers! BOOM! Studios Comics explored a "what if" scenario that created a whole new universe: the World of the Coinless.

Lord Drakkon's Rise to Power

It all starts with Tommy Oliver, the original Green Ranger. In the main timeline, he’s a hero. But what if he stayed evil? That's the question that launched the Coinless storyline, starting in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9. In this alternate reality, Tommy, now Lord Drakkon, takes over the world alongside Rita Repulsa. He does something pretty wild - he storms the Commander Center, and kills Zordon along with Jason, the Red Ranger (though later stories changed that, saying Jason was imprisoned).

The Coinless Resistance

But not everyone joins Drakkon! The remaining Rangers and their allies form the resistance called The Coinless, including Trini Kwan, Zack Taylor, and Kimberly Ann Hart. However, Kimberly is mind-controlled by Drakkon, becoming his Ranger Slayer. Even Bulk and Skull, the series' goofy bullies, join the fight—Skull goes undercover among Drakkon's forces!

The Fall of Drakkon

The Coinless play a huge role in helping Billy and Tommy get back to their own dimension, as well as stopping Drakkon's plan to conquer all dimensions. The adult Kimberly breaks free and teams up with Solar Rangers to create the ultimate team. With Drakkon finally defeated and trapped, the World of the Coinless is briefly left without its main dictator. The whole arc of stories about Drakkon is called "Shattered Grid"!

A New Threat Emerges

But hey, that just makes more adventures. Once Drakkon is out of the picture, another big bad shows up— Commander Scorpina, the revamped henchwoman of the fallen Lord, takes over Drakkon's forces. There is this big conflict to create a whole bunch of exciting moments!

There is an effort to fight Rita Repulsa, brought back to life! Kimberly then manages to take control of Drakkon's former armies.
That gives her control of this territory. Even with these epic, unexpected partnerships with Scorpina and Trini.
But, it appears, trouble follows wherever Power Rangers go. Eclipta—a female version of Ecliptor from Power Rangers in Space—shows up under Dark Specter's orders, but it is soon clear, she is about to unleash an epic amount of chaos that threatens this whole universe.

Dark Specter's Return

Guess what? Even after stopping his underlings the next challenge makes itself known! A returning Dark Specter is the big finale that brings many of the main characters to a challenging, unique turning point! Dark Specter manages to spread a zombie horde of soldiers who fight Kimberly's army. Even worse! This zombie invasion spreads to Zack Taylor!

With terrible timing, this invasion is accompanied by the re-emergence of Lord Drakkon.
What's a better reaction? Get even more friends to team up with even the enemy of Drakkon!. That is the approach taken.

What happens to this crazy situation? It leads to the end of the main Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series. The Coinless, an awesome team leaves behind an unforgettable arc, filled with action and shows off just how flexible and open this universe is to bring something new!
