Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, is a seriously Cosmic Entity. There’s no fixed form. While many readers picture this cosmic horror as that gigantic bald dude in a purple outfit, Galactus can shift forms freely, hinting at an incredible opportunity for the MCU. The big question here is: will they nail this moment? What we know from existing depictions doesn’t quite get across his horrific nature – this cosmic horror needs something much better.

Ben Dunn's Marvel Mangaverse (a limited series released in April 2002), demonstrates that these creative reimaginings of existing Marvel characters aren’t always just bad fan fiction. The limited series utilizes existing Marvel lore but in a really crazy and innovative approach! He is incomprehensible! It results in this amazing ability where those “lesser” beings only perceive him in ways those minds could understand, resulting in that common depiction which never quite conveys what he really is. And this means we have to think: how the heck could this be made more scary, right?

The Mangaverse Galactus? This thing’s not that simple man in purple; he is this horrifying anti-life virus weapon – made by the Skrull Empire (this makes it much scarier right away!). Its core uses Mephisto's own planet! Imagine how horrifying the details of its composition become. That imagery: a massive eye a thousand miles across, nervous-looking tendrils–a beating heart. This is more terrifying and certainly emphasizes the extreme horror!

Recently, the MCU has had enormous success when those visuals align more closely to the Comics – and given its success; this demonstrates a need and a critical path to generate excitement; showing why that artistic alignment matters! It does not mean it’s strictly required – a case in point for what these things should and could look like! It also requires the audience and critics to realize the implications behind this decision; and it matters significantly that such key creative choices demonstrate a deeper understanding on the part of the production and creativity involved – which, given these examples from other successful Marvel productions, matter for achieving higher overall audience impact!
