Deadpool Debuts Marvel's Ultimate Anti-Healing Factor Power (Warning: It's Incredibly Dark)
Alert: Features SPOILERS for Deadpool #3! Particularly the likes of Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Comics characters with healing elements have a reputation for being essentially immortal since they (clearly) have the ability to heal from almost any damage. But one enemy that just entered the Marvel Comics world is severely dark and questions that reputation with their ultimate anti-healing factor strength.
Crossbones has been hired to kill Deadpool, so Deadpool and Crossbones are in the thick of a deadly battle in Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio's Deadpool #3. Deadpool is more than glad to engage in a violent combat with a deserving enemy. Although Deadpool deals with his own problems with Crossbones in this comic, Wade's actual struggle is with the man hired by Death Grip rather than the mercenary at all. Leading a cult of zealots focused toward eliminating Deadpool is Death Grip. According to Death Grip's strategy, the cult searched for and acquired a weapon known for being effective against persons with a healing factor: the Muramasa Blade while the Merc with a Mouth was focused on Crossbones. By the end of the comic, Death Grip accomplished more than just wielding the sword; he employed ancient magic to drastically combine the Muramasa with his own flesh, therefore conferring the ultimate Anti-Healing Factor strength.
Deadpool Might Soon Share the Same Death as Another "Marvel Healer": Sabretooth
Although Deadpool is now facing the sharp end of the one weapon that may harm him (permanently), he is not the only “Marvel healer” in recent canon in that regard. Logan fitted himself with one (of two) Muramasa Blades at the end of the "Sabretooth War," when Wolverine faced Victor Creed following Sabretooth's merciless attack on mutantkind, therefore ensuring that he would remain down. "Sabretooth War" concluded with Sabretooth being sliced up into tiny bits, a graphic ending for a very strong enemy.
Naturally, Sabretooth more than deserved his destiny at the end of the Muramasa Blade, hence viewers were thrilled to see the weapon in use during the "Sabretooth War". Now, though, that blade has been shaped into something else - within someone else - and it's being pointed squarely at the cherished antihero, Deadpool. For fans of Deadpool, this is quite anxiety-inducing since Death Grip might have found a means to kill the fan-favorite Merc with a Mouth, so Deadpool might shortly meet the same terrible destiny as Sabretooth.
Death Grip Might Provide Deadpool His Own Ultimate Weapon
Now that Death Grip has somehow merged the Muramasa Blade with his own body, transforming himself into the ultimate weapon of death, Deadpool is far more in danger. That assumes Death Grip lands the killing blow, though, since Wade will have acquired the Muramasa Blade personally should Deadpool beat Death Grip. Though Death Grip's custom involved breaking the sword into bits, even the Muramasa shards in Deadpool's hands would prove lethal.
Though right now things appear bleak, Death Grip's upgrading could be the best thing Deadpool has ever received since he could be hand-delivery of one of the most lethal weapons in the Marvel Universe. If Death Grip does score a deadly blow, though, Deadpool will be on the receiving end of an attack he cannot heal from. Ultimately, though, the most important lesson from this issue is that Deadpool introduces Marvel's ultimate Anti-Healing Factor capability in all its unsettling grandeur.
The Muramasa Blade: a weapon with a singular past.
Legends in the Marvel Universe, the Muramasa Blade is Made by a cursed blacksmith, the sword is notorious for being the only weapon able to permanently kill individuals possessing healing properties. The Muramasa Blade's razor edge can cut right through the very core of a being's life energy, and it was dipped in the blood of a god, therefore attaining this special ability.
Many Marvel characters over the years have made use of the Muramasa Blade, including Sabretooth and Wolverine. persons who wish to eradicate persons with strong healing capacity have sought after the sword as its potency makes it both a sought-after and deadly weapon. The Muramasa Blade is evidence of the sinister and erratic character of the Marvel Universe, in which even the most strong entities can be subject to the correct weapons.
