Get ready for a brand new Ghost Rider, because Marvel is bringing some major heat to the comics!
Introducing Fantasma: The New Ghost Rider
Meet Fantasma (real name Isabella Alvarez), a Brazilian roller-skating Ghost Rider! This new character isn't your typical fiery motorcycle-riding hero. She debuted in Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special (2024) #1, and the creative team behind it: Melissa Flores, Jan Bazaldua, Luiz Zavala, and Ariana Maher. She was originally created for a series of variant covers showing potential teen Avengers sidekicks but has quickly become a core Marvel character.
Fantasma's Game-Changing Power
What makes Fantasma so unique? Her emotions open portals to Hell! It was initially unveiled when Robbie Reyes is fighting hellhounds. Out of nowhere a portal opens and Fantasma saves the day, which sets her apart from the previous Ghost Riders who mostly just use vehicles and fire chains.
She also seems completely comfortable with hellfire and doesn't appear frightened! While she suggests escaping the hellfire from Hell itself, Robbie Reyes refuses, mentioning how hot it is. She shows no concern!
But her power is far from controlled at this stage. She notes she had a panic attack that resulted in opening the portal of hellhounds! If Fantasma gains mastery, she might teleport via Limbo, just like Magik!
Fantasma vs. Other Ghost Riders
While Fantasma shares many traits with previous Ghost Riders such as Johnny Blaze, there are some very key differences.
- Her name: Instead of Ghost Rider, she prefers Fantasma!
- Hellfire Resistance: Fantasma has some tolerance of hellfire.
- Mysterious Origin: It seems this amazing Ghost Rider might not know her own origins and if that's not compelling, Fantasma suggests she might have a curse which implies she may have gained her abilities differently compared to previous versions such as a deal with the Devil or another powerful being.
Fantasma's Future in New Champions
This awesome, roller skating, unique Ghost Rider will be an incredible part of Marvel's New Champions #1. She is set to return January 8, 2025!
It will be truly fun to see her become one of the team! Fantasma has a unique approach to using her skills! So for those of you who are really hooked and waiting to dive into these new series and the potential for new Ghost Rider stories coming in, it's only a matter of time and only a question as to what Fantasma can bring to Marvel's new iteration of heroes!
