Luke Cage's Iron Man armor remains his most extreme redesign of all time.
Luke Cage, alias Power Man, has had several dramatic redesigns over the years, but for the most part, those redesigns have toned down his 'comic book-y' appearances in favor of a more understated approach. That was certainly not the case with Luke Cage's Iron Man Armor, which arrived after his aforementioned 'casual' redesign and remains his most radical look to date.
In Tom Taylor and R.B. Silva's Hunt for Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda #3, Luke Cage, Iron Man, Jessica Jones, and Spider-Man are looking for Wolverine's body years after his apparent death, when he detonates a bomb to save thousands of lives. Their search leads them to an underground auction, where they believe Wolverine's adamantium skeleton is for sale. While they fall short, they do gather some critical information that takes them to one of Mister Sinister's fortresses. To get there, each member of the crew needed their own Iron Man Armor, and Luke's was the most extreme.
Luke Cage's Iron Man Armor is His All-Time Coolest 'Costume'
As previously stated, Luke Cage's style has evolved significantly since his first appearance. Luke Cage, who debuted as Power Man, donned a yellow top that showed much of his chest, a silver band around his head and wrists, and a chain around his waist. Even now, it's unclear whether the suit was badass or stupid, but Marvel Comics eventually decided it was time to retire it.
That's when Luke Cage discarded the 'Power Man' appellation and went by his own identity, which matched the appearance of his updated 'costume': whichever clothes he chose to wear that day. Cage abandoned the 'hero' persona to become a hesitant vigilante, yet even when he joined the Avengers, his street clothing remained. At least, until Tony Stark granted him his own Iron Man outfit, which is not only his coolest appearance yet, but also incorporates parts of his original costume (gold/yellow hue, prominently highlighted chain), a playful nod to Luke's original design.
Luke Cage's Iron Man Armor Needs to Return (Especially After Gang War).
Luke Cage is currently the mayor of New York City, which means his days as a Superhero are finished - but that hasn't stopped him from donning a brand-new costume to fight in the Gang War. Only this time, Luke Cage wore a mask to conceal his identity, indicating that he is not ready to give up being a superhero; he simply cannot do so as publicly as previously. As a result, Luke has a clear path to reclaiming his Iron Man armor, which conceals his identity and provides significant power (and aesthetic) enhancements.
Now is the ideal time for Luke Cage's Iron Man armor to return to Marvel Comics, but even if it does not, the fact that he was able to wear this suit at all is a tremendous gift for fans of the character, since it allowed readers to view Luke Cage's most dramatic Redesign of all time.
