The MCU Debut for Deadpool Reframes Helicarrier Easter Egg
Wade Wilson's forthcoming MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine has reinterpreted an Easter egg from his first solo film, Deadpool (2016). Originally a part of the established X-Men film universe, the relevance of the Easter egg has changed as Deadpool's upcoming MCU arrival looms large.
Deadpool and The MCU Relationships
Deadpool will team up Mcuwise with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in 2024. Fans expect their arrival into the MCU proper, even while trailers and promos have shown the pair in Loki's Void at the End of Time and the halls of the Time Variance Authority. One of Deadpool's most famous Easter eggs from his first film's meaning has been drastically changed by this approaching MCU debut.
Easter Egg in Deadpool via Helicarrier
Wade Wilson sought retribution against Ajax (Ed Skrein), who set off his dormant X-gene under a promise to heal his cancer, in Deadpool (2016). Though it disfigured Wade, the mutation cured his cancer. Wade followed Ajax until he came upon an abandoned scrapyard with a decommissioned helicarrier for his last confrontation. Fascinatingly, the film omitted reference to the floating command center or its relationship to the spy organization SHIELD, which famously makes use of these flying fortresses in Marvel comics and the Mcu. For viewers, the helicarrier's look in the X-Men universe was an odd detail.
Deadpool's Helicarrier: Design and Licensing
It was verified that Deadpool's helicarrier was made to be visually unique in order to evade licencing problems with Disney and Marvel Studios. Several films, including The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), already clearly featured the Mcu's SHIELD Helicarrier. Though Deadpool's version was clearly identifiable as a helicarrier, it had more engines and rotors than the MCU helicarriers. Though its ownership was never revealed and most likely wasn't SHIELD given its existence inside the X-Men universe, it was a cool Easter egg in the movie.
Deadpool's Helicarrier: Retroactive Foreshadowing
Wade and Logan will be introduced by Deadpool & Wolverine into the larger MCU, where they will most certainly come across different characters and elements from the linked universe. Trailers show a fallen helicarrier in the Void at the End of Time, suggesting TVA pruning. This incident has changed the helcarrier Easter egg from Deadpool. Viewed now as a retroactive piece of foreshadowing, the helicarrier suggests Wade's ultimate MCU debut. Although this was most likely not the intended meaning, the coincidence gives the Easter egg even more mystery and makes it much more important for Deadpool almost ten years later.
Eventually
Originally a seemingly small Easter egg in his first film, Deadpool's helicarrier has significance now given the character's impending MCU premiere. One could consider the helicarrier as a hint of Wade's path into the MCU's linked world. The MCU will benefit much from Deadpool & Wolverine, and there is obvious excitement about Wade's arrival into the universe.
