Apocalypse Names Douglas Ramsey His Heir
Unbelievably, the X-men villain Apocalypse has selected Douglas Ramsey, better known as Cypher, as his successor. For the X-Men universe, this choice represents a major turning point since Cypher, a hero renowned for his telepathic skills and peaceful demeanor, has been changed into Revelation, a potent mutant endowed with celestial powers from Apocalypse.
Searching for a Successor: Apocalypse
After Krakoa fell, Apocalypse came to the conclusion that his aggressive philosophy was no fit for mutants' future. This set off his search for a suitable heir to continue his legacy. Prominent mutants including Emma Frost, Mirage, Wolverine, and Cable squared off for the title in a tournament he organized All of them, though, fell short of what Paradise expected.
Cyphers Emerges as the Selected One
Cypher was chosen by Apocalypse finally despite his lack of offensive ability and leadership experience. Apocalypse saw Cypher's potential and felt his ideas and abilities matched his vision for mutant evolution. Apocalypse thought Cypher might guide mutants into a new age when they would not depend on force and might to reach their objectives.
Revealed: A New Age for Mutantkind
Cypher takes the name Revelation following "rebirth" under Apocalypse's powers. Emphasizing progress and unity rather than violence and dominance, he promises to lead mutants using a fresh approach. His two strong allies, Bei the Blood Moon, his Arakki wife, and Warlock—his best friend and soul mate—guide him. These two people will probably be very important for Revelation's rule and present a more heroic viewpoint.
Revelation: Possibly Endangering the X-Men?
Although Revelation's first goals seem good, his metamorphosis and the sinister undertones around his new name point to a possible X-men threat. With a ferocious, villainous look, the last panel of X-Men: Herir of Apocalypse suggests a possible change in Revelation's allegiance. The celestial manipulation of Apocalypse might have changed Cypher's basic values, so transforming him into a dangerous opponent. This begs the issue of whether Revelation will follow a more villainous path, so altering Apocalypse's legacy.
The Evolution of Mutantkind
The need of a strong leader has become even more clear with the fall of Krakoa and the X-Men dispersed over the world. Apocalypse has retired; Revelation is now in charge. The X-Men have an uncertain future and it is yet to be seen whether they will embrace Douglas Ramsey's radical metamorphosis and mutantkind vision. In the continuous struggle for mutant survival, only time will reveal whether Revelation will ally or enemy in that regard.
