The Original Timeline of Adventure Time turned Finn into the New Billy - Complete with an Ultra-Powerful Arm.
Though Finn the human is a fantastic hero in Adventure Time, he has someone he looks up to: the man just known as "Billy." Stories of Billy's triumphs—an old warrior battling the Lich King, a bear, and even the ocean— motivate Finn as he battles evil alongside Jake. That said, some fans might not be aware that Finn became that hero himself in the "original" chronology.
Ryan North's Adventure Time #34 has Shelli Paroline's artwork and Finn and his buddies constantly confronting an all-powerful telepathic entity called the Mnemonoid. The Mnemonoid eats off of memories, but anyone he obtains the memories from forgets everything. Finn wakes up in ever older bodies without of memories of aging since the Mnemonoid keeps returning him over decades to feast and he has such amazing adventures. In one of these incidents, he shows up as "Old Man Finn," an ancient hero resembling Billy.
Finn Would Make His Hero Proud Though He Not Know How He Became Billy.
Finn believes his thirties were only yesterday as he wakes up as an elderly man in Adventure Time #34. Looking like his own take of his hero Billy, he is dressed out in armor and furs with a lovely sword. Billy was an elderly guy living as a hermit in a cave, resolved to have no more adventures when Finn and Jake first met him in Adventure Time. Billy disagreed with Finn when he told him he and Jake wanted to be heroes exactly like him, stating they should solve all issues non-violently, that fighting isn't worth it. But Finn and Jake were not used to using this approach, thus they screwed things even more for a nearby hamlet. They returned to Billy and motivated him by reminding him that, although that's what they're best at, occasionally violence does solve problems.
Finn believes his thirties were only yesterday as he wakes up as an elderly man in Adventure Time #34. Looking like his own take of his hero Billy, he is dressed out in armor and furs with a lovely sword. Finn feels he is the only one who can save the planet even if he cannot recall how it turned into a wasteland. Even one of his few surviving friends, Queen Bubblegum, has optimism inspired by him since she walled herself up ever since the Mnemonoid killed her wife Marceline.
Finn Knows the Path of the True Hero Towards Mnemonoid Solution
The Mnemonoid tells Finn and Bubblegum he eats memories he genuinely hungers for are stories, and adventurers have the absolute best. After battling the Mnemonoid to divert him, Finn reveals that his prosthetic arm has a strong Time Machine and he and Bubblegum travel back to the day they first met the Mnemonoid. Finn lives up to his idol Billy both as a warrior and in a non-violent manner. If he's going to eat stories, Lumpy Space Princess—who has a never-ending supply of rumors—is the one he truly desires.
The future has been altered when the Mnemonoid loses interest in the young hero once he has a better source of food than Finn. Though he advises Finn of a lot of things to avoid, including marriage to the Flame Princess, Old Man Finn gradually disappears since his timeline never occurs. This is an all-around great finish that ties off the frayed ends and strikes all the prescribed beats. This narrative reveals why Finn is such a wonderful character at any age and why Adventure Time marks the finest of times.
Adventure Time: The Mnemonoid's Impact
Adventure Time #34 features the Mnemonoid, a creature that feeds off memories, who significantly changes Finn's chronology and drives him toward being a hero like Billy. This meeting emphasizes the need of memories and the ability of stories to define the path of a hero.
The ravenous appetite of the Mnemonoid for stories represents the ongoing power of narrative and the way they could change our life. By means of its comic book series, Adventure Time investigates the complex relationships of time travel, memory, and the hero's path. The Mnemonoid's existence questions the idea of a set chronology since it implies that our history and future are always changing under the effect of our decisions and behavior.
