Star Wars: Insurgency Rising – A Perfect Fit in the Post-Return of the Jedi Timeline!

Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #2: Perfectly Weaving Itself into the Existing Canon!

Star Wars: Battle of JakkuInsurgency Rising #2 (from Alex Segura, art by Leonard Kirk, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg) is a massive win for hardcore Star Wars fans. This new comic, set after Return of the Jedi, expertly slots into the existing canon, seamlessly blending known events from books, games, and more! And while the entire period between Return of the Jedi and the Battle of Jakku remains rich for additional storytelling opportunities, this comic series is already proving successful and important, highlighting those very key points from prior sources and enhancing their stories. That's really what makes this release impressive.

There's no confusion! Insurgency Rising #2 references prior stories quite well! There’s absolutely no confusion: it successfully establishes a credible narrative that seamlessly connects with existing material. And yes, there was potential for mess ups here, yet the comic authors demonstrate amazing creative insight! It masterfully demonstrates some excellent writing choices.

Luke Skywalker's Secret Mission: Connecting to Battlefront II and Beyond!

Rae Sloane and Rax Discuss Adelhard in Insurgency Rising #2 Image

Insurgency Rising #2 ties into EA's Battlefront II (released 2017), specifically Luke Skywalker's post-Endor mission to Pillio, guided by the Force.  This is shown brilliantly! Luke needs to get a Jedi star compass from one of Palpatine's hidden observatories. This makes perfect sense given the various details. And it isn't the only reference either –  Luke battles the Acolytes of the Beyond after dealing with Inferno Squadron’s Del Meeko, providing seamless integration and an utterly amazing callback that greatly adds to the appreciation of how interconnected the storylines were!

That's not all! The comic series brings even further expansion to what was seen and portrayed initially. Those are simply superb inclusions; especially to what is presented within that wider context!   It also ties to Palpatine’s Operation Cinder (from Greg Rucka's and Marco Checchetto's Shattered Empire in 2015). Those actions clearly are tied into earlier narratives and it provides that important level of integration and deeper exploration into various plot points and motivations across storylines. It shows excellent research!  And amazing planning! This connection showcases exactly why certain details are critically important.

Key Imperial Figures: Aftermath and the Road to the First Order!

Hera Syndulla and Rae Sloane With Batlte of Jakku Image Image

This comic brings some seriously important Imperial figures to the forefront:  Yupe TashuGrand Admiral Rae Sloane, and the infamous Gallius Rax,   all brilliantly tie directly to Chuck Wendig's Aftermath novel trilogy! Those connections show just why Sloane’s role as an essential Imperial leader really becomes completely critical, showcasing just how her continued existence creates that inevitable transition into that final stand at the Battle of Jakku,  leading to the events that followed, showcasing just why this entire arc is so vital for the First Order’s formation!

And those choices? They’re all really brilliant choices for plot inclusion:  We have Rax –  Palpatine’s protégé.  His purpose?   Making sure Palpatine’s Great Contingency happened.   Rax, born on Jakku, helped protect that hidden observatory and the Imperial Shadow Council.  He died at that crucial Battle of Jakku – but created that inevitable rise for the First Order! That’s masterful use of continuity! The clever introduction of these elements clearly show exactly why Insurgency Rising is well made.

Governor Adelhard's Iron Blockade: A Rogue Element After the Fall

Return of the Jedi Poster Image

This comic adds an extremely interesting element that impacts the storyline and those established dynamics even more! Governor Adelhard's Iron Blockade is this totally key aspect—an extreme loyalty resulting in his extreme rejection of how completely changed things truly were! He isn’t playing by the same rules! And this really explains that additional element from those other, prior plot points in other parts of that narrative; the additional level of chaos that existed, even after Palpatine’s demise and showing this element of rogue agents even more clearly.

This really changes how much that whole Post-Return of the Jedi period appears. This demonstrates the sheer scale of challenges facing both sides! The conflict and those various decisions which lead to specific outcomes make everything incredibly dynamic, emphasizing this particular arc as an absolutely required moment of development!
