Onslaught is BACK! The X-men Face Their Most Powerful Foe Yet!
Onslaught Returns: The X-Men's New Team Faces a Legendary Threat
The X-Men face a seriously dangerous new villain: Onslaught. This insane character’s return, featured in Sentinels #1 (2024) (written by someone awesome and illustrated by someone amazing), really throws a wrench into the plans for that new mutant-hunting team, made up of troubled survivors from those famous past Marvel events, like that crazy Onslaught saga. That’s the saga that nearly destroyed the whole Marvel universe! Only a massive sacrifice from the Avengers and the Fantastic Four stopped that guy initially!
This latest mutant-hunting team (those Sentinels), led by Lawrence Trask (son of the original Sentinel creator), focuses on capturing the deadliest mutants and keeping them locked away in Greymalkin Prison (that’s the old X-Mansion, converted into a mutant prison). Things get crazy as Drumfire, a Sentinel with mind-blowing power manipulation, fights Omega Red. But instead of destroying Omega Red, something far more terrifying materializes in his place: Onslaught! And if this dude could defeat the whole team originally, those new super soldiers might not stand a chance, without completely altering those inherent plot elements.
Onslaught: The Ultimate 90s X-Men Villain
Onslaught, that ultimate 90s X-Men villain, is an incredible creation, folks! He's a seriously dangerous psychic being composed of Professor X's worst fears and Magneto’s evil. That crazy powerful being almost wiped out the world!
Onslaught’s latest appearances include a short appearance within Krakoa (in Way of X and X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation #1); he infiltrated the mutant nation. Orchis, that notorious anti-mutant organization planted him there for the ultimate assassination!
Even crazier—Onslaught survives within hatred. In Way of X, he latched onto that rage that many Lost mutants felt towards Fabien Cortez. So now he has completely attached himself and exists within another's pure emotions. But this could happen again, easily and potentially within those cyborgs with modified brain functions.
Is Onslaught Real...Or Just a Traumatic Flashback?
There’s another big, crazy theory! Maybe this is more about trauma rather than actual supernatural appearances, Onslaught might just be a hallucination created through that particular trauma resulting from Drumfire's mom's death! This theory could completely be impacted if this was indeed some consequence brought about by her cyborg enhancements – and those extreme sensory shifts implied as another major side effect. This entire storyline heavily focuses on that traumatic element present.
The crazy part: This doesn’t matter if this is actually a hallucination, folks! Onslaught survives in thoughts and feelings. That's crazy power! He has the possibility to be reborn or to create new, similarly dangerous realities. That creates the unexpected but intriguing question and possibilities: those Sentinel programs may just have inadvertently created something way worse! It may just also make sense if the Sentinel cyborgs possess a new and extremely similar ability that was only first exhibited in Onslaught; meaning a possible revival through similarly empowered entities!
Conclusion: Prepare for an Epic Showdown in Sentinels
Onslaught's return to the X-Men mythos creates unexpected and completely thrilling opportunities! This insanely dangerous and wildly powerful entity that almost ended the world might not even really exist as an independent force in that particular reality, even if he shows up, indicating the possible means through which his abilities and methods can be mirrored in future productions. And the possibilities surrounding those developments for creating similarly powered villains become that additional factor which would surely lead to additional and even more intriguing sequels and storylines which really explore his power.
The Sentinels face this incredible threat. Will they triumph or will another cataclysmic conflict threaten to destroy the very world we all know?
