Batman's New Rival: Commander Star Shows Up in "The Dying City"
Chip Zdarsky's Batman run's next chapter will feature a fresh character, Commander Star, in a "DC ALL IN" tale ideal for new readers.
New Batman Arc brings Brand New Superhero Commander Star.
Designed for both seasoned and new readers, Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez are ready to open a fresh chapter in the Batman story. Currently finishing his last arc, Batman dealt with his dark counterpart, Zur-En-Arrh, addressing fan questions regarding the character. Now he is handling Amanda Waller's schemes during the line-wide "Absolute Power" event.
Following "Absolute Power," DC Comics will start a new era known as "All In," with fresh narratives for continuing books fit for new readers. Issues 153–154 by Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jiménez, and Carmine Di Giandomenico will signal the beginning of Batman's "Dying City" narrative, which will publish twice monthly in October. Along with further background on the new narrative, Jorge Jiménez's Batman #153 main cover is shown here.

Returning with a fresh narrative arc, "The Dying City," Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jiménez, and Carmine Di Giandomenico feature an unexpected turn from The Riddler, a mystery new Super Hero named Commander Star, and the startling murder of one of Gotham City's most prominent citizens.
Along with a "unexpected" role for the venerable Gotham villain The Riddler, "The Dying City" promises a fresh character in the form of Commander Star, thus this arc would be ideal for new readers.
DC's Absolute Universe: Fresh Era for Comics Books
Plans of DC for their new "Absolute Universe" have been confirmed. Screen Rant includes the first round of creative teams among other specifics.
Beginning Batman #125, Zdarsky and Jiménez's Batman run started in 2022. Since then, Zdarsky's run (with different artists) has brought the formidable opponent, Failsafe, a multiverse adventure honoring a historic issue for Batman, and the return of Zur-En-Arrh for a climax final battle in his most lethal tech suit yet. Now Zdarsky starts the next phase of his study on the Dark Knight and the Bat-Family.
Set to arrive in Gotham City with the start of this new arc, Commander Star is a new superhero on horizon. The synopsis makes hints of a fascinating mystery. While another familiar Gothamite is expected to die, The Riddler (last seen getting an interesting offer from Bruce's old mentor that could finally make him Joker's equal) will reach a turning point. Concurrent with this, a fresh superhero called Commander Star is approaching Gotham City starting this new arc. About Commander Star and his arrival to Gotham, little is known.
"The Dying City" as the ideal introduction for new Batman aficioners
Although Zdarsky's past Batman arcs have been entertaining, readers must be somewhat familiar with the past tales if they are to fully grasp the intricate events. For older readers, this has been fulfilling; for new readers, it is not very inviting. Since "The Dying City" cleans the slate completely and offers a fresh start, it should be a must-read for new fans. Particularly in the middle of a new DC age, this fresh arc invites fresh readers into the fold.
From DC Comics, Batman #153 is available on October 2, 2024; Batman #154 is available on October 16, 2024.
