DC's Evil Green Lantern opens formally as Jadestone Is Released.
Jadestone is here, with powers of Alan Scott and a mind of his own, having developed sentience from the willpower pouring through him. For defenders of Sector 2814, willpower has always been the most useful weapon available. But now someone else is wielding the Green Lantern's light, not exactly by willpower alone. Not only that, but he's a sentient robot; he simply developed himself into his own Green Lantern mythos.
The ascent of Jadestone: a sentient green lantern
Amanda Waller and her new Suicide Squad of hive-mind androids have pilfers the powers of the world's greatest heroes as the planet collapses around the Justice League and other heroes under Absolute Power. One Amazo is tracking some heroes who are trying to flee. Task Force VII #3, by Jeremy Adams and Marco Santucci, sees this Amazo completely change following Starheart drain from Alan Scott's body. Suddenly rebooting, completely sentient, he finds new name, purpose, and life from the very core of willpower.
Jadestone is another instance of reimagining Green Lantern mythology by bringing the old struggle back—green against green. Good and bad willpower existed prior to the Sinestro Corps's arrival, prior to the rainbow of the emotional spectrum. Like Sinestro and Hal Jordan, this is a longstanding conflict; now, it's one between the oldest Green Lantern and a newly produced android. The Android has already won, but not in the manner he might have anticipated.
Jade is the Green Lantern name for Alan Scott's daughter; consequently, the very name of Jadestone could be one last insult to damage since he steals her powers. Taking power away from Alan Scott's Green Lantern seems to have an unexpected beginning for mindless Amazo. Previously an unidentified Android serving Amanda Waller, he has unexpectedly become consciousness and identified himself as the newest Green Lantern, Jadestone. With every other Green Lantern ringless and absolutely human, Jadestone has not only become the most powerful Green Lantern but also the only one there is. The power of the Starheart, a very vital piece of willpower personified, is now the gasoline in his engine.
Willpower and Evil: The Uncertain Journey of Jadestone
Being a Green Lantern entails battling for good, hence the issue remains: just how long can Jadestone keep onto his willpower as long as he stays on the side of evil? The response can be shorter than anticipated. After all, along with his sentience, Jadestone looks to be free of the Amazo hive mind and can act of his own will. Though his exact actions with his newfound abilities is yet unknown, perhaps he will also develop feelings for the Green Lantern's might.
A fresh green lantern, a new hope?
Jadestone is now formally the only Green Lantern of Earth after all the others have sold of their own vitality. Now that he is completely independent and raw willpower is running through his circuits, it could be likely that he will not be obedient to Amanda Waller's instructions anymore. Being able to fight for oneself and make your own decisions helps one to possess willpower. As the most recent Green Lantern chooses just what to do with his newly acquired will, his employment assigned to him may well backfire and be the world's saving grace after all.
The Heritage of the Green Lantern
Several enforcers of interplanetary justice in the DC Universe go under the name Green Lantern. Green Lanterns may build special spectral items to fight their foes and harness the cosmic energy of willpower. Though some Green Lanterns have helped the Justice League, their main affiliation is with the Green Lantern Corps.
Summarize.
Since the Green Lantern was developed for DC Comics in the 1940s, several people have adopted the name, powers, and obligations of the character. But regardless of who assumes the designation, Green Lanterns—an intergalactic force for justice and protection—search to eradicate evil and preserve Earth (and other planets).
