G.I. Joe is diving headfirst into the Energon Universe, and things are about to get messy! Team leader Duke has assembled an elite strike team, but it turns out that not everyone is going to get along! That awesome new recruit, Risk, isn't exactly thrilled to simply take orders and things will soon get incredibly messy; that's a spoiler-free tease!

G.I. Joe #3 (dropping January 15th, 2025, written by Joshua Williamson, art by Tom Reilly, colors by Jordie Bellaire, letters by Rus Wooton, cover art by Reilly and Bellaire) is going to give us the action-packed drama! And while Baroness (that reformed villain) could easily clash with Duke, the spotlight is on this huge conflict, showcasing the creative efforts surrounding how this newest member affects this legendary team in unpredictable ways! The cover art itself displays those kinds of tensions, perfectly portraying a fist-fight between Duke and Risk; with Baroness trying desperately to prevent total destruction from occurring in this surprisingly unexpected plot point which shows great development.

Risk's Arrival: A Rich Kid, Cage Fighter, and CIA Operative

Risk (officially debuting in G.I. Joe #1 in November) is already generating huge buzz and will affect everything surrounding G.I. Joe; it remains to be seen what will transpire! He’s that rich kid, trained in cage fighting and a CIA operative. He’s not your average recruit. This guy analyzes risks, got tired of sending his colleagues into harm's way. So, Risk started taking the risks himself! This caught General Hawk’s attention – leading to this incredibly surprising recruit which will add plenty of chaos, drama and intrigue for this already immensely hyped comic.

Josh Williamson (the writer) talked to Screen Rant, hinting at tensions between Duke and Risk; he describes Risk as “a bit of an antagonist” for Duke. Considering Risk’s MMA background? A brawl is possibly going to occur; a potentially bad choice for Duke which may cause problems later for him! And with Cobra on the rise? This really puts the team into another level; this inner conflict might mean total disaster! With those Transformers already showing up in this new universe; and various problems now forming; G.I. Joe is facing threats on multiple fronts. A surprisingly messy moment for a team designed for a completely different kind of battle!

Cobra's Venomous Ally: A New Threat Emerges

G.I. Joe #3 also teases Cobra recruiting that “venomous new ally.” It suggests a classic villain– or an entirely new one; making use of that prior groundwork that will bring immense satisfaction, given how many popular villains might easily fit into these new narratives. Many characters got added into the previous mini-series but some serious fan-favorite villains, like Zartan and Doctor Mindbender, are still not revealed – yet they are hinted at, especially surrounding various events that transpired within those mini-series plotlines that added these elements without immediately revealing all those cards! Hopefully, G.I. Joe can work together – and they’ll need to! It will bring many enjoyable plots, as G.I. Joe will always show up where they're needed the most, bringing another new enemy for that already highly capable and ever-developing military team to resolve.

It delivers an interesting setup showing an impending, action-packed fight that generates high expectations and leaves fans eager for more; adding another interesting dimension which creates those incredibly satisfying conflict elements inherent to many comic storylines. Prepare for a serious action extravaganza that has plenty of moments to engage its viewers on multiple levels. This is certainly a massive entry that has everyone interested and excited, even in the build-up, to its launch.
