Mace Windu’s Dark Side Moment
One of the most intense scenes in “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” sees Mace Windu, a Jedi Master, attempting to assassinate Palpatine, the dark lord of the Sith. This scene is controversial because many fans theorized that this act signifies Windu succumbing to the Dark Side of the Force.
Mace Windu’s Death
While Mace Windu is not in “The Rise of Skywalker," there’s a scene that indirectly addresses his alleged “turn to the Dark Side." When Rey is able to connect to all Jedi in the Netherworld of the Force to defeat Palpatine, Windu’s voice can be heard. It’s confirmed that he’s still in the Netherworld of the Force. This suggests he hadn't crossed to the Dark Side, thus making his moment in “Revenge of the Sith" not a true “fall”.
Mace Windu’s True Nature
Mace Windu’s actions are complex. While his willingness to kill Palpatine contradicts Jedi doctrine which states a Jedi can’t harm an unarmed opponent, Windu’s decision came from a place of responsibility and duty. He saw Palpatine as a direct threat to the Jedi Order and the entire Star Wars Galaxy. While it might have been considered a lapse in judgment, his intent didn't seem to originate from Dark Side impulses.
Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker
Mace Windu had a profound impact on Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One prophecy, as a result of this conflict. Anakin, conflicted by Windu’s actions and Palpatine’s deceptive words, chose to side with the Dark Lord of the Sith, pushing Anakin towards a fall. It ultimately led to Palpatine’s victory.
The Rise of Skywalker and the Jedi Netherworld
The Netherworld of the Force is a dimension that houses the Force Ghosts of those who have transitioned from life to a spiritual afterlife. The Rise of Skywalker, through its final battle, established that only those connected to the Light Side can reach this spiritual state.
Mace Windu’s Future
Although Mace Windu is no longer alive, it's worth noting that in the "Star Wars universe", there have been moments where Jedi and other beings who died, have returned. It’s a possibility that Mace Windu may find himself in some other Star Wars stories and series in the future. While there has been no confirmed plans as of now, the character has garnered a huge fan following.
