A Hero of Classic Justice League Returns From the Dead
Dick Grayson asks an underappreciated Justice League member for assistance in Nightwing #116; she has returned from the dead with a wild twist. Deadman, sometimes Boston Brand, has unexpectedly come back from the dead.
Deadman's Unexpected Visit
Deadman died apparently during the Knight Terrors event. Although the DC Universe suffered a great loss here, the character appears to have been raised from dead. Deadman is not the same though. Rama Kushna returned him, but she has limited his spirit to Nanda Parbat. Deadman has a funny discussion with Nightwing on the clichés connected to his trip in Nanda Parbat.
Deadman's past
Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino developed deadman. Deadman is a different kind of character since he did not grow to be a hero until after his death. Deadman was Boston Brand, a circus acrobat. Rama Kushna brought him back from dead. Rama Kushna charged Deadman with tracking down his killer and bringing them before law. Deadman has evolved into a mainstay in the magical and supernatural section of the DC Universe. He belonged also to the Justice League Dark.
Deadman is most connected with the artist Neal Adams, who sketched most of the adventures of the character. Rama Kushna brought Deadman back so he might exact retribution against his killer. Eventually, Deadman, Boston Brand discovered his killer, but he also gained insightful understanding of humility and responsibility. Though it is unclear why Rama Kushna revived Deadman and left him in Nanda Parbat, it is likely she is trying to impart another lesson or that he is being punished for an unidentified sin.
Deadman's Prisonment
Deadman's abilities make him a great benefit to the DC Universe; the Justice League saw this and awarded him membership. Nightwing asks Deadman for help, but Deadman is imprisoned in Nanda Parbat, making assistance challenging. Nightwing has past sought Deadman's assistance. Both characters come from circus backgrounds, which offers them shared ground. Nightwing will be assisting Deadman in discovering means of escape from his captivity. Though he is off-table right now, Deadman's abilities benefit the DC Universe. Though it is probably transient, this is a significant loss.
Deadman's Mysterious Future
Currently available from DC Comics is Nightwing #116. The question makes readers wonder what Deadman's future holds as well as Rama Kushna's actual motivations. Deadman's escape from his captivity and whether he will be able to resume his heroics in the DC Universe will be fascinating to observe.
