With opening the multiverse and enabling countless possibilities, Avengers: Secret Wars promises to be a revolutionary event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The possibility to at last fulfill a long-standing MCU teaser starting in the very first Iron Man movie is one of the most fascinating features of this movie.
Terrence Howard's character, Colonel James Rhodes, shows in the first Iron Man his want to wear the Iron Man suit. "Next time, baby" he famously says following Tony Stark's performance. Rhodes would eventually become War Machine, thus this apparently benign line seeds the future. Howard's participation in the MCU was brief, though, and Don Cheadle took front stage in Iron Man 2. The multiverse presents a special chance to correct this and let Howard to at last enter the War Machine suit.
As discussed in movies like Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the multiverse lets different iterations of characters exist. Howard's Rhodes could thus exist in another universe, maybe even furnished as War Machine. Secret Wars could bring this other Rhodes into the fold, so fulfilling Iron Man's original promise and providing Howard the superhero moment he was deprived of.
Terrence Howard's Return: A Realistic Prospective?
Although Howard's comeback as War Machine is intriguing, it is yet unknown whether he would be interested in returning the MCU. Howard has publicly voiced his displeasure with his leaving the franchise, citing claims of mistreatment by Marvel Studios and a pay dispute. He said he feels underappreciated and that he has not received the same degree of backing as other MCU actors. Given past events, his eagerness to come back for a possible cameo looks dubious.
For fans, seeing Terrence Howard in the War Machine suit would be a fulfilling and nostalgic event notwithstanding the possible obstacles. It would give closure for a long-standing teaser and link the MCU's beginnings with the grand events of Secret Wars. Although the likelihood of this occurring is low, Secret Wars become much more fascinating and erratic because of the possibility for this surprise visit.
The multiverse in Secret Wars offers a great range of interesting opportunities. The movie might go back over past narratives, bring back dear friends, and feature surprising turns. Just one of many amazing opportunities that could develop in this much awaited MCU event is Terrence Howard's possible comeback as War Machine.
