Driven by hints from the forthcoming series, "Agatha: House of Harkness," the likelihood of Scarlet Witch's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is getting stronger. After "WandaVision" proves successful, Marvel is creating a spin-off series based on the adored character, Agatha Harkness. Originally set to premiere on September 18th, the show stars Kathryn Hahn returning as Agatha alongside a gifted ensemble including Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, and Patti LuPone. The concept of the show naturally draws on the events of "WandaVision," in which Agatha was bound to Westview as apparently innocuous neighbor.
Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, became a potent sorceress in "Wandavision," finally ensnering Agatha. But Wanda's path in the MCU later on has been tragic. Agatha seems to have been released from her curse when she lost her family and descended into darkness driven by the Darkhold, then self-sacraced in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" to destroy the ancient book. The story of "Agatha: House of Harkness" suggests almost certain possibility for a resurrection of the Scarlet Witch.
Agatha is unquestionably a sorceress in the MCU, but it's still a matter of debate how she ranks against other characters. One person who might be quite important in this story is Joe Locke's character, sometimes known as Wiccan, Wanda's son. Many think he is Billy Kaplan.
Joe Locke's character is shown in teasers for "Agatha: House of Harkness" creating a coven with Agatha and setting out the fabled Witches' Road. As the comics portray this trip, it is a perilous road open only to sorcerers. Those who negotiate this road are supposed to be granted their most intense desire.
Locke's character is maybe Wanda's son, thus it would be reasonable if his main wish was to see his mother again. Agatha's coven consists of outsiders, thus even if this version of Billy is different from the one shown in "Wandavision," knowing the existence of a universe where he has a loving mother could inspire a strong need to find her through the Witches' Road.
Many fans were disappointed when Scarlett Witch left the MCU despite her key part. Though "Multiverse of Madness" highlighted her abilities in action, her death—verified in the official MCU chronology—felt like a lost opportunity. After almost ten years of developing her character, only one movie felt like a service in fully showcasing her ability.
The "Agatha: House of Harkness" series offers Scarlet Witch's resurrection a perfect stage. According to comic book mythology, Agatha's resurrection occurs along the Witches' Road; hence, maybe the series will reverse the story and instead bring back the Scarlet Witch. Scarlet Witch's return is much awaited since she has great influence on the MCU and promises interesting narratives.
The show will surely enhance the magical legacy of the MCU regardless of whether "Agatha: House of Harkness" really prepares Scarlet Witch's comeback. Agatha's narrative will show her powers, background, and the complexity of magic being explored, so permanently changing the MCU.
