Romantic Comedy Anime: Are They Ditching The Secrets?

Do Romantic Comedy Anime Have One Weird Thing in Common?

Crunchyroll really has it all! They give us all kinds of cool Anime shows to binge watch! It's super easy to find new shows and especially if you love a good romantic comedy anime series!

Why Are Romantic Comedies So Popular?

There are so many anime romantic comedy tropes! And some anime just bring these to life! What we get is love and romance in those unique anime character relationships. There are so many shows that fall into this category but right now there are two new shows from the summer anime season! These have a very interesting thing going on.

Wait - They Are Saying What's On Their Mind?

  • It is rare! Sometimes the main characters never just come clean with what's really going on! Those feelings. Those secret crushes.
  • That makes it a lot more interesting! The whole lack of communication thing. There's a reason it’s so common. It makes the anime conflict more dramatic, because you always have to wait until the truth comes out. You just don’t know if the truth will come out! But these shows, these romantic comedies are trying a bit of a different tack!
  • It's about a female protagonist who wants to be honest - but those emotions, they can be a bit tricky.
  • There's this awesome anime series called "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian". She really likes this guy, Masachika - they grew up together, even though she's kind of hiding that part. She'll spill her feelings - but in Russian! Even the cool thing is that he speaks Russian and knows exactly what she's saying!
  • This new anime on Crunchyroll - "Pseudo Harem" - is going with something similar. We are following a female lead in anime - Rin. Her method? She tries to act different to try to capture his attention - she just really wants him to like her! But here’s the problem. It might not be obvious when she’s acting or not!

So How Is It Unique?

  • Usually these romantic comedy shows try to hold back those secrets until they get caught, but in "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" the male lead in anime just knows the girl's true feelings.
  • "Pseudo Harem" takes it to another level - she’s not directly saying she likes him - it’s more of a charade. We are gonna have to watch those anime series similar to this to figure it all out. These new shows take a classic anime trope and make it so different.

That makes it super interesting - how they've messed up this whole romantic comedy anime thing - which are always super fun to watch! The good thing? "Pseudo Harem" is actually an anime adaptation from the manga, and that is a great sign that people might really enjoy these! Who knows! It’s cool to watch how the anime trends are moving away from those classic rom-com tropes.

"Pseudo Harem" and "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" might just become a big part of that awesome anime community! You might even hear more anime news about them and how it’s all gonna unfold!
