After working so hard to build it, Jujutsu Kaisen's protagonist is stealing the show.
Though in a "monstrous" state after assuming the corpse of his mentor, Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu has returned into the battlefield in Jujutsu Kaisen's last battle. But this implies that Yuji Itadori, the series' theoretical protagonist, has been sidelined once more just when he had showed development and the ability to stand toe to toe with Sukuna.
The main character is clear for every other Shonen Jump series, but Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen shows different. This comes from the author, Gege Akutami, who decided against showing Yuji as a standard Shonen genre protagonist. Although Yuji's portrayal is flawless, this has unintentionally kept Yuji off the field many times when other characters like Gojo or Megumi took front stage. But Yuji at last had his moment to shine as the major character with Gojo dead and Megumi under Sukuna possessed.
Yuji's Return Is Sending him to the Sidelines Once More
Gojo's thrilling and unexpected comeback in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #261, "Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 33," turns out to be Yuta using Kenjaku's cursed method to transfer himself into his mentor's body. With Yuji firing a volley of Black Flash on the King of the Curses, Sukuna clearly was about to lose. Left without options, Sukuna decided to enlarge his territory in order to escape this situation; this is when Yuta seemed to come to save the day. This story utterly drove Yuji Itadori, the primary character, to the sidelines for no apparent cause.
Given the struggle between Yuji and Sukuna was nearing its peak, Yuta's comeback in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #261 could be seen as pointless. Yuji's central persona was at last developing complexity, especially in light of the discovery he might be descended from Sukuna. Yuji was rising as a good or better version of the King of Curses, representing the part of Sukuna lost when he ate his sibling in the womb. His soul was like Sukuna's. But Yuta's startling comeback throws off this story's development and begs doubts about Yuji's major character status.
Gege Akutami is feeding Sukuna from sorcerers as fower.
One sorcerer after another have entered the battle ever since Gojo was slain by Sukuna, although their influence is not very great. Only characters like Hiromi Higuruma, Aoi Todo, and Choso have so far shown a real effort on the battlefield by supporting Yuji and giving him the respect he so merits. Choso and Higuruma made the required sacrifices that produced Yuji an edge versus Sukuna. Unlike him in their fight against the cursed spirits, Mahito and Hanami, Todo is playing his part in supporting Yuji battling the opponent.
All of these seemed to point toward a deliberate effort to defeat Sukuna by assigning Yuji the difficult choreography. But like Gojo and Megumi have done in the past, Yuta then returns to take front stage from Yuji. Given Jujutsu Kaisen's last great effort to develop Yuji as the protagonist, this is more disheartening and aggravating than it has been ever.
The Growth of Yuji
The new events could once more cause Yuji to be sidelined. This was particularly true given the shocking disclosure on Yuji's soul resembling Sukuna. Jujutsu Kaisen was at last starting to explain why Yuji was chosen as the primary character while Yuji was pushing Sukuna to the brink.
It's clear who the primary character is for every other Shonen Jump series, but Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen presents different results. This comes from the author, Gege Akutami, who decided against showing Yuji as a standard Shonen genre protagonist. Although Yuji's portrayal is flawless, this has unintentionally kept Yuji off the field many times when other characters like Gojo or Megumi took front stage.
