Sailor Moon Power Ranking: Who's the Strongest Guardian?

Sailor Moon: Ranking the 10 Sailor Guardians From Least to Most Powerful!

Sailor Moon: A Galaxy of Girl Power!

Sailor Moon is an iconic magical girl anime. It's known for its amazing characters, deep lore based around astrology and mythology, plus awesome battles fought for justice and love! The core cast consists of those legendary Sailor Guardians– essentially goddesses linked to various celestial bodies. While each Guardian has their unique strengths and personality, those powers and combat abilities really differ!

Naoko Takeuchi’s manga (debuted 1991) is still massively popular; and the 90s anime (remember Toonami?) plus the faithful adaptation (Sailor Moon Crystal in 2014) provide plenty of epic fight moments to show just how strong those Guardians are. We're going to dive into a ranking based upon what various sources have shown from several of those depictions:  Get ready to dive into their amazing stories!

Ranking the Sailor Guardians: From Weakest to Strongest!

10. Sailor Mercury (Ami Mizuno): Brains Over Brawn

Ami Mizuno, awakened after Sailor Moon, might be intelligent but isn't a battlefield powerhouse. This serious student uses her Mercury Visor (a supercomputer!) to plan attacks and exploit enemy weaknesses. Her water and ice powers are useful; yet those moments remain far more tactical; and strategic; rather than pure combat power.

This lack of combat power however isn’t everything; she often uses clever tactics to solve conflicts without fighting, demonstrating those powerful traits. From outsmarting villains like Crane Game Joe to showcasing more human elements (appealing to enemy's morality),  Ami compensates through strategy and even compassion – this creates memorable moments from these many confrontations!

9. Sailor Jupiter (Makoto Kino): Early-Game Heavyweight

Makoto Kino is physically strong and wields incredible powers; those attacks reflecting her Roman mythology heritage. Sailor Jupiter commands electricity and plant life with deadly effectiveness (think “Supreme Thunder” and “Jupiter Oak Evolution”). While having a tomboyish personality (with fighting spirit), she’s a romantic at heart.

Despite her strong early-game appearances (a heavy hitter using close-combat regularly), her power reduces somewhat once the Outer Guardians appear, even dying during an early scene. In Sailor Moon Cosmos’ opening scene, her Sailor Crystals and later even her life itself, gets lost to a Sailor Animamate, severely diminishing the overall effect, demonstrating another important moment.

8. Sailor Chibi Moon (Chibiusa): The Future Guardian in Training

Chibiusa is Usagi's daughter (from the 30th century) – the next guardian!  Despite being still a kid, this already mature, determined guardian protects the future moon. She even receives mentorship later – showcasing an increase in overall skills. And she later obtains full control of the legendary Silver Crystal! That's no small thing.

Her real highlight is Sailor Moon Eternal. A Pegasus (Helios) gets her help to defend against Queen Nehellenia's Dead Moon Circus; resulting in a climax featuring a powerful performance, defeating Queen Nehellenia.  Even those events such as freeing the Amazon Quartet, that whole thing shows the great promise and potential growth in those initial traits, abilities and skills.

7. Sailor Mars (Rei Hino): Spiritual Fire and Fierce Combat

Rei Hino's flaming attacks are awesome; but it’s more than just fire!  Sailor Mars is spiritual too; this means that she possesses traits like precognition, abilities involving powerful curses. Those spiritual traits provide key warnings for imminent danger, seeing through illusions – this is especially useful during conflicts! Those handmaidens (Phobos and Deimos) enhance those impressive traits, enhancing this amazing character's prowess! She is dedicated to defending the family shrine; demonstrating more dedication towards spiritual tasks.

In Sailor Moon Eternal, she faces those illusions created by Tiger’s Eye; using her “Flame Sniper” against his decoys before eventually striking him directly, showing immense control of her surroundings.

6. Sailor Venus (Minako Aino): The Experienced Leader

Minako Aino is more than a guardian!  She's charismatic and determined, the leader of the guardians before becoming Sailor Venus!  She fought crime early, having experiences even before Sailor Moon’s series start; thus adding those levels of seasoned, skilled combat effectiveness and unique background which greatly contrasts her more younger and comparatively inexperienced counterparts; emphasizing why this amazing and veteran character would stand out amongst those in the team.  And Artemis (a cat familiar like Luna) assists her too.

In Sailor Moon R: The Movie, she really demonstrates a powerhouse– showcasing “Crescent Beam” that acts like an amazing laser cannon for destruction; demonstrating amazing ability that only those skilled enough could properly control.

5. Sailor Pluto (Setsuna Meiou): Guardian of Time

Setsuna Meiou, that all-important guardian of Space-Time, prevents unauthorized timeline alterations! Her powers however, remain powerful despite those obvious constraints which she must face and the need to prioritize order throughout all time itself, the 90s anime reduced her importance. The newer adaptation does things much differently and reinstates Setsuna’s crucial mentor role in relation to Chibiusa, making those earlier changes look somewhat nonsensical. Those unique talents (time stopping; manipulating rifts) make her enormously powerful.

Despite the overwhelming danger those responsibilities create, her power comes with major sacrifices. Her attempts to use these powerful abilities result in extremely dire and critical situations. The second season of Sailor Moon Crystal sees this happening; She saves Usagi from Prince Demande with the help of this special, power; but sacrifices some aspect of herself and only those dedicated and brave would do such things.  She suffers similar fates throughout later installments; and the power continues to grow along with those levels of intense sacrifices made possible for the sheer act of selflessness

4. Sailor Saturn (Hotaru Tomoe): The Destroyer of Worlds

Hotaru Tomoe, the Guardian of Destruction, can end—and remake–the universe itself.  Think:  The capacity to reshape all of existence and history in one single decisive moment; a power only matched by a small handful. In Sailor Moon Eternal, and Sailor Moon Cosmos, we see how that immense, and often extremely destructive power (resetting time after Princess Serenity’s tragedy during the Silver Millennium), requires enormous discipline to control.

Hotaru’s increased importance in the updated versions of Sailor Moon also demonstrates that this extremely important guardian is not simply an added feature, she is one who needs increased relevance. The added moments featuring defensive constructs; she faces Sailor Galaxia’s attacks— demonstrating incredible strength.

3. Sailor Neptune (Michiru Kaiou): Oceanic Power and Precognition

Michiru Kaiou (Sailor Neptune) has some impressive powers. Her control over the ocean may not seem to reach the heights demonstrated in the earlier characters in the list, but her partnership with Sailor Uranus enhances her powers.   Like Rei, she has precognitive abilities to detect danger; maximizing her already powerful traits! Her Deep Aqua Mirror (a reflective talisman) helps too; allowing her to expertly deflect attacks, turning everything around!

An amazing display appears in Sailor Moon Crystal's third season; She deflects the simultaneous attack from other guardians who are currently under attack, showcasing absolute dominance over the power and control over this mystical weapon, that particular moment highlights those qualities never portrayed before in that unique level and moment, that entire episode truly shines in various parts; including this particular point featuring Neptune's unique attack, defending against other guardians at her best.

2. Sailor Uranus (Haruka Tenou): Swordsmanship and Rebellion

Haruka Tenou, the seriously rebellious Sailor Uranus lives that daring life. This powerful guardian excels at close combat, with that legendary Space Sword. She and Sailor Neptune believe they are the true ones who can face down evil.   She has such immense confidence that this character will frequently attempt to challenge her perceived weakness within the other guardians; attempting to completely dismiss the existence and potential for collaboration with them.   Those rebellious actions and tendencies frequently show up later and often leads to unexpected challenges and intense situations which test all of her teammates!

That rebellion, shown especially during the confrontation against Sailor Moon, for the legendary Silver Crystal shows her ruthless resolve;  yet that exact challenge allowed Usagi to prove herself worthy!  It also serves as a critical narrative plot point that is absolutely crucial.

1. Sailor Moon (Usagi Tsukino): The Power of Love and Justice!

And finally, Usagi Tsukino— that amazing and relatable Sailor Moon— and her power level eclipses others.   The heroine's transition from awkward teenager to the leader of those iconic Sailor Guardians is what really stands out.   She's powerful – the reincarnation of Princess Serenity, and enormously powerful herself. Her overall strength doesn’t however consist of those classic traits: tough combat prowess, that genius-level strategy or even utter fearlessness! Those inspiring aspects (justice, love and hope) makes her truly awesome; even when everything is clearly outmatched or when facing the immensely powerful villains that continually appear; it is through these powerful aspects that this truly beloved character continues to make an impact through numerous appearances.

Sailor Moon Cosmos features the highest point. It shows the pure, raw power that Usagi commands— even without those powerful allies who had turned against her,  and she fights off every one, defeating a brainwashed team, and ultimately confronts Sailor Galaxia in that amazing final sequence— an intense battle across that expansive location of the Shadow Galactica palace! That moment showcases those heroic capabilities of this much beloved character.
