Long anticipated following a remark by industry insider Jeff Grubb last month, Sony has revealed its forthcoming PlayStation State of Play event. Like many PlayStation Showcases and State of Plays, several of Sony's first-party games as well as other highly regarded games arriving for PlayStation systems should be given great attention.
A post on the official PlayStation X page verified that the 30 minute State of Play program would air on May 30 at 18:00 ET. Along with a glimpse at many PlayStation Studios titles expected later this year, the post offers updates on 14 PS5 and PS VR2 titles.
While many businesses postponed until June to cover the hole left by E3, Sony had already hosted its large PlayStation Showcase in May 2023 and appears to be following this trend in 2024, matching with its Days of Play event and getting ahead of the Summer Game Fest starting on June 7. Many are hoping for equally amazing revelations this month, last year Sony offered gamers their first taste of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's gameplay, Bungie's new title Marathon, and the remake of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Though it's now known that the game will be included in Konami's own Silent Hill Transmission showcase the same day, it is unlikely to be in Sony's event as the rumors surrounding the State of Play did start when talking about Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake. Following the release of Ghost of Tsushima on PC earlier this month, Sony might unveil its sequel—which has yet to be revealed but has obviously been in development based on data gleaned from job openings for developer Sucker Punch. Alternatively, there are suspicions that Insomniac Games could offer further Spider-Man announcements following last year's event, maybe providing a first look at the much expected DLC for the game, which sources have indicated will have the Beetle as its villain.
With 14 titles to exhibit, hopefully the May 30 State of Play will have sufficient to satisfy PlayStation aficioners. Though numerous games slated to be showcased, there are certain to be some surprises even while there have been several speculations and leaks providing some notion of titles Sony's first-party teams have been working on over the years.
