Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back, originally a one-shot manga, is possibly his best work yet! Even if you are already familiar with his stuff (like the insanely popular Chainsaw Man), you’re going to be amazed. Fujimoto’s style is bonkers and totally unpredictable! That alone is why I kept on reading. But beneath all that wildness, the themes here are super powerful and deeply personal; demonstrating those kinds of themes often unseen in such unpredictable story-driven works. You are seriously going to want to watch it!

I completely related to Fujino and Kyomoto, the aspiring artists in the story; it totally captured everything involved. Their relationship, this dedication; their determination and commitment and wanting to make something awesome of their own life; reading it totally moved me, remembering why I make art! When it was announced that this would become an anime; I completely knew it was a must-see event. But nothing could prepare me for the new feelings and realizations I got, totally rewriting how I saw art, and really making some important thematic points.

So much has changed since the original release of the manga. Artificial intelligence is blowing up— and all that crazy AI technology affecting all art creation; not to mention the negative evolution and toxicity seen all across social media that completely rewards dishonesty, these have made many debates around creative freedoms and creativity incredibly fraught with peril. Yet this Anime? This amazing story served as this very vital, crucial message: It reminded me that art remains that very crucial form of creative resistance; fighting the ugliness we frequently experience in today’s world.

It began with Fujino meeting Kyomoto, a recluse. Kyomoto comes out to meet her. Their bond deepens through art, which connects these seemingly distinct personalities, which is really important to understand throughout that entire movie!

She gets this new awareness – this journey with Kyomoto was important, a great bond achieved! Showing her work, allowing someone to directly appreciate and respond honestly to her art became extremely critical in how Fujino moved through those issues.

Words sometimes fail! Our words can either mean so much, too much, or not quite what we intended, sometimes getting those unintended, unappreciated contexts. Art shows everything so well. The entire story highlighted the creative and honest expression— a profound bond that created shared humanity. This became so apparent in this emotional masterpiece which uses this raw moment in its narrative.
