What Makes Dragon Ball Super's Artist Such a Big Deal?

Fans know that Dragon Ball is awesome because it was created by the super-talented Akira Toriyama, right? It was, but even he knew how awesome Toyotarou is! And Toyotarou, the series' Dragon Ball Super artist, brought a crucial part to the Future Trunks Arc and Dragon Ball Super arc - the time Goku went head-to-head with the villain Goku Black!

What Did Toyotarou Change?

Goku Black, aka Merged Zamasu, was way more of a challenge than he originally was! Toriyama wanted the villain to be more like, yeah, it’ll be a battle, but then Goku will use his super strength, Super Saiyan Blues, and get through it. Toyotarou stepped up and totally made Zamasu more intense and unstoppable! You've got to think that Toriyama and the series artist definitely thought of how the show would look too. Fans were super hype when Goku and Vegeta fused together - to make the ultimate, unstoppable Vegito! Talk about some amazing battle choreography too. It’s a combo of super talented minds at work.

When Did This Big Change Happen?

It all started when Toyotarou was reading Dragon Ball Super volume 4, while working on his art! He'd always been a super-huge Dragon Ball fan. He realized the big Dragon Ball Super arc involving Goku Black wasn't as interesting as it could have been, because Goku Black wasn't that powerful. That made Toyotarou want to up his game.

What About Toriyama's Original Idea?

Toriyama did some awesome writing! He is super creative. And what Toriyama had originally written would still be cool. Goku and Vegeta, with their super strength, could fight the Zamasu dude with his Potara Earrings and their time limit!
That's pretty exciting, but Toyotarou totally elevated this part of the Dragon Ball franchise! That means we got to see how intense Zamasu would be and all the awesome scenes where Goku and Vegeta used their ultimate Super Saiyan Blues.
It all ties in really well with Dragon Ball! You might remember, in Dragon Ball Z, the original series that took Goku to his adult life - Goku and Vegeta had to use their ultimate form and even fused before with their earrings. That means Toyotarou, in the later series, created this really cool scene that actually fit super well into the overall Dragon Ball story!
