There is currently no official announcement regarding a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel. Though the series saw immense Cyberpunk: Edgerunners popularity, leading to requests from fans and even critics for a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel, it's important to note that the series, at its debut, was initially a limited series which has no plans to continue, particularly, by Studio Trigger - the animation studio that gave us this masterpiece in anime.
While this series may not get an additional episode or installment in this current production, there is hope that those behind Cyberpunk and the universe they have created - could give us another, innovative series - that might be set in the Cyberpunk universe or even have the same Cyberpunk 2077 influence and characters, just a different setting, a new narrative.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was an immense success and served as a gateway for fans who are also interested in the video games as they became aware of how CD Projekt Red (the creators behind this series of video games and stories in Night City) are bringing this to a larger audience.
In its teaser, Netflix announced a Cyberpunk animation project. This was done as part of their Geeked Week events, which was launched in June 2023. In this brief trailer, viewers caught a glimpse into the dark, edgy environment in Night City. This was further accentuated through a glimpse at a dystopian urban world - a place that's constantly being redesigned, recreated, and, as in this particular version, that also highlights the slums that take shape within the world.
Fans have always embraced Anime. It has provided a new avenue, particularly those that enjoy Cyberpunk - those who find themselves fascinated by stories in a futuristic world. Even the first series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has proven just how popular it is - particularly in how this production made its premiere and continues to be discussed - one of the biggest reasons is due to its Cyberpunk animation quality - an element that serves as a major attraction for many anime lovers and especially Studio Trigger’s fans (Studio Trigger is the animation studio known for a great, action-driven visual approach to their projects).
While this new production from Netflix could go in a completely new direction - those fans who enjoy Cyberpunk will be ready for another grand adventure that continues to bring to the screen, a blend of reality and those aspects that we associate with science fiction and even a bit of horror - it's an incredible mixture - which serves as the defining components of the Cyberpunk Anime, particularly since this series (known as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ) has served as an example that could help shape the future. This upcoming project could be an expansion, where it doesn't just have the capacity to tell a great story in this unique world - but also it has the chance to inspire a Cyberpunk anime story, which is meant to create fresh events that fans are sure to love.
While the new anime will focus on Cyberpunk in Night City, CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 serves as inspiration. It will be important to make connections with this production as it's an opportunity to further build and develop this expansive universe and those who are big fans will recognize its distinct setting, its dark undercurrents, as well as its Cyber-obsessed city.
Those following the universe of Cyberpunk , particularly those who also follow CD Projekt Red's productions and, the various game titles. This is an extension that might take the same storyline and world (that has already received significant praise for the quality of its graphics and production) into another format.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is known as a Netflix Cyberpunk anime series that was developed through a collaborative effort with CD Projekt Red - a great example of how those in the gaming industry are seeking out new opportunities to extend their franchise through additional avenues. In particular, Studio Trigger - known for those incredible action-driven sequences, has been responsible for this show.
This series is not simply about providing an entertainment-driven series in anime - those watching this production may even discover the show gives fans of the Cyberpunk 2077 game a better understanding of Night City, its underworld and the dark slums of this disturbing city. The story focuses on David Martinez , who, unfortunately, is drawn into a dangerous world, and ultimately - he seeks to find the only way out: mercenary jobs. Those watching may discover an inspiring, even hopeful story that also includes elements of horror and even violence, an exciting world of those in this dystopian universe and those Cyber-augmented humans.
Although there are currently no official plans, a Sequel could very easily be a possibility. Those watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners know that the production of the series gave fans a unique look into this universe and it introduced some great new storylines for those following this Cyberpunk universe - especially since it introduced characters that fans became invested in. It's no wonder, then, that there's still hope for CD Projekt Red to deliver on this fan-favorite. The show even gained a tremendous following - as those watching were eager to learn more about its world.
The announcement of this new Cyberpunk project suggests that CD Projekt Red and Netflix have plans for continuing to expand this series - Studio Trigger might also give us another production. In many ways, it seems as if this might be the beginning of an entire universe for Cyberpunk - giving the studio more creative liberty.
Studio Trigger has proven its capacity to develop impressive stories in anime - especially given how they have created series such as Kill la Kill and Promare - giving viewers an idea about the Animation style they have delivered throughout several other, iconic, productions. This studio is often known for its vibrant action sequences that are full of energy, dynamic and even daring with visually stunning characters.
They often bring to those audiences - fans of anime and those seeking new projects - a blend of action, drama and a lot of heart. Even the stories behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners showcased these themes, including those that often give those characters a sense of despair as well as an ambition, in an effort to make their own choices to combat the systems around them, while making it clear that this studio is on a quest for innovation, as they've also indicated - the future of this studio may include more collaborations and a new Cyberpunk anime project - an innovative new release for those who look forward to new titles and those fans who are looking for the very best animated stories, often giving viewers those grand stories.
Cyberpunk - in general, and those stories set in Night City - particularly, have an alluring aesthetic that draws viewers in. A combination of darkness, mystery, and intrigue has given those who watch it a deeper, richer sense of wonder as they follow along on those thrilling events that can be witnessed as those Cyberpunk characters try to overcome a world of obstacles, often seeking to achieve something great or make it through another day. A common theme that’s used across these stories - is a sense of deception as Cyber-augmented humans (characters that have been given advanced capabilities, technologies and implants) often face an uphill battle to survive in the world, which is constantly changing.
The Cyberpunk series that has been presented in a range of formats - particularly from the video game version, which was first introduced in 1988, or those seen across different TV series or the movie adaptation "Blade Runner" has created an array of events and storylines - all those characters have often faced their mortality and choices - those which serve as the backdrop to those in Night City. There's an intriguing element, a world of danger, with its corrupt, morally questionable individuals as mercenary jobs often draw in a number of characters.
